Subject: Billy Barker (WWI) Biography

I have a question on a detail in the biography of Canadian WWI ace
William "Billy" Barker. He has been credited by various authors as having
shot down an Austrian ace in the Italian front. However, it has been
variously reported to have been either Franke Link-Crawford or Josef Kiss.
Does anyone know which, if either, or have a reliable reference. Thanks,
you can email me direct at:

page 204: "On July 31,1918 over Montello, Linke-Crawford fell in flames.
It has been variously reported that he was a victim of three Italian
pilots, of a Captain Cottle of No. 45 Squadron, R. A. F. , and also as one
of Major Barker's, the Canadian V.C.'s victims. His father, Adalbert
Linke-Crawford and his younger brother who had arranged to visit him on
that same day, were both considerablyshaken by the news. The charred
remains were recovered from the wreckage and buried at Pobersch, near
Marburg-Drau (now Maribor, in Yugoslavia). After the war the body was
brought to Salzburg and reburied there."

page 205 Josef Kiss: "A dashing and reckless flier, he was twice wounded
in action. The second time being on January 25th, 1918 during a dogfight
with the Italian ace, Silvio Scaroni. He was killed in action over
Valsungana on May 25th, 1918."

The section on Major Barker, pp 28-31, gives no specific victims.
