Since they cannot maintain their equipment ensure that our maintenance
people are withdrawn at least a year in advance. Also prevent the
French/Russian/Chinese/etc replacing them.

Why would you do that when the countries concerned are our allies
and we sold them the aircraft ?

The article refers to Saudi Arabia and the UAE both of which are
key Western allies and lucrative markets for defense industries.

Would you rely prefer Iran had no opposition in the Gulf ?

came from Saudi Arabia. As for Iran it may be earlier in the queue.
