Forgive me if I am wrong but isn't the centre of thrust dependent on the
installation not the engine itself. The centre of thrust is at the prop hub
or spinner regardless of what engine you use. Please explain your reasoning
if I have miss understood you.
I fly Jabiru's and have known of one crankshaft breakage and one throw a
rod. The rod was the early aluminium type, they use steel rods now which
are better. The crank problem seems to be a one of a kind, not a common
problem.
The drifter you can buy with a Jabiru 2200 from the Drifter factory.
Obviously they like them. I find them generally to be good. The flying
school aircraft, a Jabiru with a 2200, does 400 hrs a year with very little
problems.

Here there are not a lot of 4 cyl. Jabiru engine (it costs a lot...) but
owners are generally proud of it and it has a reliability fame.

Mount the engine wherever you feel it should be to establish whatever
thrust line location you feel it should have.
Sounds like like maybe you should have the factory install it !
