Car and Driver described it a few months ago as a sidebar to
their cover story on four red, rapid, reasonably priced sports
cars. Sounds like a sprightly little performer, and apparently
they didn't have to do a lot of kludgeing to get a small-block
Ford in there. I wouldn't mind having one myself if eating and
living indoors didn't come so close to consuming every dime. :)
Happy motoring,

The June issue of Motor Trend has a section describing several companies
that work over the Miata. Check it out.
The Monster Miata was about $25,000.00 if I remember right. It has more
than a motor swap to it. There is also significant suspension mods done to
handle the increased weight. The next time I make it to Southern California
I am going to make a point to go by and check it out.

You think it would be an ill handling evil "monster,"
but it is not. It goes quite well. And it has a
very good weight balance: nop worse that 60/40, which
is not bad at all.

I'm sure you folks will be glad to hear about the new conversion the company
is doing... I don't remember all the spect, but they use the brakes from the
'93 RX-7, and the drivetrain is off some american car I believe. They're
quoting 400HP, cost of somwhere in the 40Ks, and even better suspension.
They're working on CARB certification. I think they call it the Mega Monster
Miata (but I can't remember the name). Check out the latest AutoWeek for
the info. The one with the pickup shootout on the cover.

According to Autoweek, there will be a MegaMonsterMiata for $40,000.
Mustang 5.0l engine, GT-40 heads and a supercharger for a total of
400hp. I wonder if it will use the same tires as the NSX...

Actually, it says $45K. Tires are 245/45 16 Pirelli P Zero :-)

I dunno why....they should have just shoved in a Rotary motor with a turbo
and got even more impressive results with less stress on the frame.
The Japan Miata's are semi-impressive but with a Rotary swap that car
could but a ton of fun at a lesser price and go even faster with less
cash spent...

.. and undercut the RX-7's market! It's the same reason the F-body will
never have IRS (undercut the Vette) and a bunch of other similar events.
What might be currently reasonable is to put the old non-turbo 13B in the
Miata - no RX7 competition, but a hell of a lot more plausible than now.
What seems reasonable to consumers may not to accountants and project
leaders in the auto industry.
Craig
I TOTALLY AGREE on that. a 13B is more accesiable to find and proably
easier to do, but seems what we think is right for the best performance
is sometimes wrong for the industry...> >

Totall AGREE on that one too. Mazda, don't have much in their line
but they do have the Rotary. The little Miata is a pocket rocket
for the price, much is to be desired but then again its a good little car..
But then again....what we do or auto enthusiast's do is do all of this our
selves and just some guys make UNESTREALEST "Boggling" packages that astun
the market of the Hobbist. Of course a 350 Chevy is a Hell of a lot faster
and cheaper to build with all the spare parts about but how serious you wanna
get is my question.... ;)
