I knowed it was gonna happen! Just like the HD converter boxes that
never happened, and which I might add HAD TO BUY WITH MY OWN MONEY!!
Obama ain't doing us any better than Bush! And I'm still waiting on
that big screen TV the gov't owes me so I can sit on the couch and watch
Oprah and eat tater chips in style.

I ordered the coupons, got them, and went to wallyworld to get the
made in china or vietnam HD converter box and a big bag of chips made in
the US of A. Whoa...... there were none, no converter boxes, thank gawd
they had plenty of tater chips. So I went back a week later and no
converter boxes again, but they had tater chips, and a month later, and
on and on. The coupons expired. Now how is that my fault? I'm a
victim of the system! When the pizza delivery dude shows up with the 8
topping special, all I have is a scrawny 32 inch CRT TV with the VCR
playing reruns of Oprah, thank gawd I recorded those shows. Now I am a
citizen of the US of A, and unlike Obama I have a birth certificate to
prove it, and the system has failed me. Cash for Clunkers? I heard
Obama has ordered a new run of dollars for that program.
Actually the real story. The converter boxes were intended for other
people. The coupons did expire, with no boxes to be had around here.
I found a couple at the junk store the other day one had a remote with
it. I hooked one of them up with rabbit ears and there was enough
signal for 3 channels. A little cable work and relocating the antenna
and all should be well.
The boxes were 1.95 each. I would guess they will be a dime a dozen
soon at garage sales and flea markets.

Gee, what a horror! Next you will have to buy your own food.

But, the HD convertor box program is still ongoing. You can still
order your rebate through today.

Was Wallyworld the only place you could buy one? I got mine at Target.
DId you talk to the manager or an employee to see if you could reserve
one when it arrived? Or have them call you when a new shipment came

At least you can get your money back!

I am not sure that TV is really worth the $1.95 the box costs, anyway.

The Gov't doesn't owe anybody anything, but they're sure handing the money
out willy-nilly.

Wish I'd hung on to that LS and waited until now to buy my tC. $8,500
would sure be a nice price.

Maybe they'll make it retroactive for people like me that *DIDN'T* wait
for a government hand-out.

good for you. seriously, I agree with you 100%.

Friend of mine just traded in a rough but serviceable pickup that just
needed a new windshield and some front end work. I'm sure some less
privileged individual would be glad to have it, but then again, they
wouldn't have paid my friend $4500 for it either. This policy
encourages waste.

Hell, if I didn't need a pickup of my own, I could have done the same
thing. And mine's in better shape, and still not worth $4500 on the
open market.

Dish had them for a while but last I checked they didn't have them. I
really thought I'd just pick a couple up for around 50 bucks each and
pay the 10 dollars difference total 20 bucks out of pocket and be done
with it, it didn't ever happen. A couple of walmarts and a K-mart I
went to didn't have them, when wallyworld did have them the coupons
were long expired. Radio Shack had them for 65 bucks. Anyway the gal
finally has a working TV again, only a few channels but she was very
happy to have a TV again.

Yup. Prices on vehicles that qualify have risen sharply.

There was a similar progam in Mass to get cars that don't have OBD-II on
them off the road. They were offering up to $750 for them, but you had to
have a registration and had to own the car for over a year, so prices
didn't rise sharply.

About seven something years ago, a guy and his family used to live in
the house across the street from me.He drove a Pepsi Cola tractor
trailer rig.One day I looked over there and there was a 1969 Cadillac
car sitting in his driveway.About a week or so later, there was another
Cadillac about the same age as the 1969 Cadillac sitting over there, two
old Cadillacs.I Applaud the guy for collecting those old cars.

Snowy areas,,,, An old ''Trick'' I once read about in Popular Science
magazine (Auto Tips and Kinks) back in the 1950s or 1960s is to make a U
shaped thingy out of pipe with a garden hose connection at one end and a
cross pipe halfway between the U shaped pipe thingy, one side to the
other side and drill some holes in the pipe.Turn on the water and slowly
drive your car back and forth over the U shaped pipe thingy.Good for
rinsing off the salt under there too.If you connect the hose to your hot
water heater, I guess that would work even better.Nothing like old

When it comes to Palin, I am not worried about that at all.

She's exactly what the Republican party needs - finally, a caricature
of everything that is wrong with the Republican party, so that finally
the party will implode on itself and either disappear or else reform
and get back to real conservative values and stop giving credence to
uneducated religious right "family values" assholes.

In other words, she's so bad she's good (for the party at least)

But kind of like Rush Limbaugh, I can't help but feel a little
superior to people who actually take her seriously.

You shouldn't, because there's no reason to be.

> but you are.  Still

It could be that I find her interesting, and that's why I'm so
interested in her and what she says and does.

OR

It could be that I find her scary, and that's why I'm so interested in
her and what she says and does.

Which seems more likely?

Come on, dbu. You and I have both seen hundreds of interviews of
politicians. Can you honestly tell me that Sarah Palin is not far and
above the most fun to watch in these interviews?

Same with speeches. Usual political speech? Boooring!. Palin
speech? Funny, fascinating, confusing....

that only reflects badly on the American public. she's still an
idiot, or does a pretty good job of impersonating one.

She apparently has more sense than BO, he thinks one can get out of debt by
spending money that you do not have.

Do a search and you will discover the US Treasury report, just released,
shows the income to the Treasury had the biggest DECLINE since the
Depression, during the first six months of 2009 under BO. It will only get
worse if the BO and the Dims succeed in enacting their so call healthcare
"reform" as well as the job killing cap and trade bill

Call and write to you two Senators and Congressman your stop this madness.

In contrast the income to the US Treasury GREW in every quarter after
Presidents Kennedy, Reagan and Bush lowered tax rates to spur the economy.

I didn't say I agreed with BO's policies, only that Palin was
embarrassing. Disagreeing with BO and being embarrassed by Palin are
not mutually exclusive.

You could go to the government web site they spent $18M to set up.

But they are saying when you log on that the government now has complete
access to *EVERYTHING* in your computer!

Actually, I guess it's for dealers who log onto the governemnt site to
sign up. I heard there's a disclaimer there that once you agree to the
terms of the website, the government has the right to examine your
computer and all data in it.

This is what I've heard. I'm not working for a dealer any more, and Linux
or no, I sure as hell ain't going to look.

OTOH, if you hear someone talking down about the proposed health care
plan, you can turn them in at whitehouse.gov. But that's a thread for the
Toyota group...
