Any chance of convincing Ford not to sell all the historical cars it owns
to private collectors and to set up a museum instead?

Ford takes it's past to market (Peter Robinson)

Sorry Ford, but no-one is going to take your forthcoming centenary
celebrations seriously.
Not if you go ahead with the June 16th auction of 51 prototypes and concept
cars. Mostly from Ghia's collection, but also including many recent
Dearborn concepts, the list includes hugel influential designs like the
Ghia Focus, various Probes, Lagonda Vignale and Ian Callum's Ghia Via AC.
Ford presents the sale as a positive move, as if the only alternative to
selling the cars - the proceeds go to charity - is the scrapheap and not a
Ford museum. At least here we could enjoy the work of some of the worlds
best cars in perpetuity.
/end

He goes on a bit more, but the upshot is that they're going to sell these
cars to collectors, who'll coat them in wax and hide them in a private
collection, never to be seen again.

Does anyone really care about a 1992 Mustang Mach III concept roadster, even
if it is worth an estimated $200K?

The 1960 Ghia Selene II concept car; take a look:

No wonder Ford is unloading it. I would imagine that Ford has hundreds of
far more important automobiles.

I have a friend in Calgary Alberta who has a 1968 Ford Mustang Fastback.
351. It's had C$6,000 worth of work and it's his pride and joy.

I wouldn't knock it unless you'd seen it.

After all, Ford don't make man racing engines ( for example) the Holy D F V
was a Brit' box paid for with lots of very welcome Yanky greenbacks.
I've always found the stuff Ford pay to have developed in/for Europe to be
it's best work. I mean, have you seen many MkII escorts in the US.
The GT40....was it a US creation though?, quite a machine.

And lay off on them for reliability, they are about 2nd to Citreon in the
"runs til it actually falls to bits" stakes, the only thing I have against
their cars is the way they chisel the chassis from a single giant block of

Interesting,...
In Germany we observed the following during the past few decades:
All car manufacturers rediscover their heritage and support the classic car
scene by manufacturing out-of-stock-parts, opening company museums,
participating in the classic race scene,...
Only Ford never gave a s..t on that.
Under this circumstances the fact that the storage facilities with all the spare
parts for the 60th and 70th cars burned down in the 70th (or when was that?)
looks a bit like arson to me. Gets you rid of your duty to supply parts during
the first 20 years after production is discontinued.

Anyhow: Ford talking about honouring their heritage makes me laugh.

Pontiac will be selling Goats again next year...Actually imported Holden
Monaro. So if a 4 door Vette engined car gets your goat...a GTO is for you.

Yeah, but it won't have the lines of the '67, which was IMHO the most
beautiful car body ever designed. Especially from the rear-window back.

I also used to be a Grand Prix fanatic. Look what they did to that :(

And, I just must say, what the HELL is it with Pontiac and these bug-eye
headlights and tail lights over the last decade ?

There is an article about this in the July Car & Driver.
I originally thought the Monaro was going to be brought over as a
replacement for the Camaro, but Chevrolet probably thought it wasn't
sporting enough. It's nice, but kind of looks like a giant Cavalier.
At that time, I think Pontiac was showing re-badged versions of the
Grand Prix with different cladding as the GTO.

I'm actually surprised they're not importing the Caprice.
The old birds and cops over here used to love them.
Most of the police departments around me are now driving Fords.
