I view it as just fact...... it if was taken as grandstanding It was not meant
as such. While I knew full weel the door i was looking to open may well be
walked through it still takes the 'free will' of another to go there.
I view sobriety as only a duty to myself and my family. I only spoke of it
due to the fact i have an ongoing experience with it, and felt qualified to
share about it.
However i will acknowledge and accept that grandiosity is one of my larger
charcater flaws. ;-/

Hopefully now you see I'm not Sybil. ;-)
Hey everybody is dismissing this Hbo stuff as total crap and I felt it deservers
a closer, more honest look.
Racism abounds in this life and to dismiss the fact that the southern base from
which Nascars roots are drawn
makes it even more likely in this sport than most others, is too obvious to just
ignore.
While i knew it would exact a response........i felt silence would be the
greater sin.

Thanks for the clarification, I didn't think that that was your doing, but I didn't
check my facts. I'm sorry. When I'm wrong.......I blame it on others....no that's

Yes, I bet that there would be some who would say that. Is it right?
Hell No, but that is not NASCAR's fault? No, that is the fault of those
individuals.
To interview a few individuals with that attitude and then say all
NASCAR fans are racist is unfair. In fact, is that not the kind of
sterotyping that we are trying to get away from? I guess "guilt by
assocation" is a fair way to judge NASCAR and it's fans.
Further, there are no signs posted at the track that say only certain
races are allowed to compete. There are no rules on the books that only
certain races are allowed to race. NASCAR is a business, just like
basketball, football, and ect, they can not get away with such behavior.
Part of the report with the Dr. Pepper team focused on sponsorship. The
owners talked about how sponsors want instant results and that they
needed the best driver they could get. Is that different for them than
any other team out there? This has nothing to do with, or if a minority
could represent a product. I seem to remember Bill Cosby, Michael
Jordon, Charles Barkley, Ironhead Haywood, ect. will with TV commerical
deals and/or product endorsement deals. It has everything to do with non
experenced drivers.
If NASCAR is racist, how come the Dr. Pepper team is allowed to compete?
Why is Liberty Racing allowed to compete in the Truck Series?
Wendell Scott broke the color barrier in the 60's. He opened the door,
why have others not followed? When Ribbs got the chance, he wouldn't
take it. I would love to have the deal that he did. Did you know that
the ride that Ribbs would not take was given to Dale Earnhardt?
> > Also Richard Petty said Ribb didn't make it in NASCAR because he got messed up with the law.
> That's was pretty lame. It didn't make Richard look to good.
Yes, but they went to great lengths to make Richard look bad. Talked
about how that no one calls African-Americans "colored" anymore, and
that was not really racist, but the point that they were trying to make,
was that it IS racist to call Africans-Americans "colored". If this is
so, then why has the NAACP (National Association for the Advancement of
Colored People) not changed the name? Doesn't this make the NAACP
racist?
> If there wasn't a good bit of truth to it People wouldn't get so upset IMHO.
Only thing that "Real Sports" proved is that there are still some
individuals, who like NASCARm are racist, but that is far from proving
that NASCAR is racist. They did not show one stitch of proof that NASCAR
is guilty of racism. I really believe that they did this show with a
chip on their shoulders. They had the preconceived notion that NASCAR
was racist, and that was the bais that they "reported" under.
I am not that naive to think the this country has gotten past racism. As
a county there is still a lot of work to be done. But the bottom line,
the door is open, if you want to race, then work for it.

I generally don't pay any attention to Bryant. I have not watched the
"Today Show" on NBC for years because of him.
What has got me so riled is the fact that this story has moved past
"Real Sport" to the AP wire. I read an article about NASCAR and racism
in my local newspaper. Again an article with no proof. I believe that
the article came about by some lazy reporter looking for a story.
If we don't fight back, then do we support the story that HBO has put
forth?

If you feel strongly enough that the article in the newspaper
was, pick one or more: (1) poorly researched, (2) poorly written,
(3) off base, (4) just plain mean-spirited and intended to play the

A few hints about that: (1) Be brief (not like my epistles. :),
(2) Delete the expletives and name-calling up front, (3) make your points
clearly, concisely and get outta there, (4) don't make threats (most
newspapers' newsrooms could not care less if you threaten to
cancel your subscription or your company's advertising), (5) sign
your name, address, and give your real phone number (many
will check it). For bonus points, encourage your friends who
feel the same way you do on a subject to do the same. Check
your newspaper's web page. Many accept letters to the editor
nowadays by e-mail. As to brevity, most newspapers tell you
how many words they'll accept in such letters. If you go for
six or seven paragraphs with about 40 words each, you'll be
under most wires. You probably already know this,
but most newspapers NEED letters to the editor. It's one
of the best read sections of a newspaper and provides about
the ONLY contact they ever have with their readers. Good luck.
