I'm curious if anyone has any ideas or suggestions as to the best way to
find and contact serious collectors of signed/numbered/artist proofs of
auto racing artwork.

(And if you're wondering - No - this is not an attempt on my part to
advertise on this newsgroup)

After always wanting to obtain these types of pictures, and intending to
hold onto them indefinitely as investments, my interests have changed.
I'm keeping a few, and trying to sell the rest. However, I'm quickly
discovering that this really is a niche market, and trying to find people
interested in no-longer-available items is close to impossible.

Here's what I've attempted so far:

IDEA: Putting them on a web site.
RESULT: So far they haven't been indexed on most search engines yet
(from past experience this could take months based on the
engine/company. I also know I need to update some of my
Meta tags to facilitate this)

IDEA: Post them on the eBay and Yahoo auctions.
RESULT: Already tried that. And after watching other people's auctions
over the years, it appears that many people end up selling
prints for less than the original offering price!

IDEA: Contact the Garry Hill and Sam Bass galleries.
RESULT: Already done that. I've had several conversations with
Garry, and he says he will be in touch if anyone contacts
him looking for a specific print. The Sam Bass people,
unfortunately, do not have any interest in the secondary
market, and do not maintain a list of requests for out-of-
stock prints.

IDEA: Advertise in Winston Cup Scene.
RESULT: Ran an ad once as a test. Concerned with spending $35-40
each week for an ad with no results. But may do that in
November as the holidays approach.

IDEA: Contact other online racing galleries.
RESULT: Contacted a few, but they want written assurances from me
that the prints were mounted to the highest archival
standards. Since I am not the original owner of most of
the prints, I cannot honestly attest to that (even though
some prints have the name of a gallery on the back).

If anyone knows of any sort of database or service that matches up buyers
and sellers of auto racing artwork, please let me know. (Note that my
email address above has been modified to stop spambots - you'll recognize
what needs to be done. <g>)
