Bull Charges Through Pack to Post His First
                ARDC CARQUEST Midget Feature Victory Ever

        NEW EGYPT, N.J., Aug. 15 - Ray Bull of New Oxford, Pa., charged
through the pack to post his first American Racing Drivers Club (ARDC)
CARQUEST Midget Series feature victory ever as the organization made its
second appearance of the season at the beautiful, recently-remodeled New
Egypt Speedway Saturday night.

        Bull became the ninth different feature winner of the season in the
dozen ARDC CARQUEST Midget Series features run so far this year. His best
ARDC finish prior to Saturday night was second at the club's last race,
which was held at Port Royal (Pa.) Speedway Aug. 8.

        Bull started 12th in the 20-car field in his familiar white Beast
Gaerte, which is owned by Spike Gillespie of Bloomsburg, Pa., and sponsored
by Mark Piazza Racing Engines and Master Lube. He cracked the top five on
lap five and vaulted into third on lap seven of the 25-lap contest around
the third-mile dirt oval. Bill Courtwright of Hackettstown, N.J. was
leading at that point but he got too high in turn two, hit the wet portion
of the track and spun to bring out the first yellow and give the lead back
to Fremont Dickerman of Higganum, Conn., who had led laps two through five
from his pole position.

        On the restart both Bull and Bryan Kobylarz of Birdsboro, Pa.,
charged under Dickerman on the backstretch, and the top two stayed that way
the rest of the race.

        With his runner-up finish Kobylarz took the point lead, as the
point leader going into the race, defending champion Ed Stimely Jr. of
McVeytown, Pa., suffered a flat left rear tire with seven laps down and
finished next-to-last. Phil DiMario of Piermont, N.Y., who had won the last
three ARDC CARQUEST Midget Series features, had a bad night too, as he blew
a rear in Ray McCabe's Stealth Gaerte as the field was lining up for the
feature and didn't take the green.

        Trailing Bull and Kobylarz's Starrett Coal Export Services Ellis
Fontana was Tim Dietz of Hanover, Pa. in third place. Dietz had won the
feature in ARDC's earlier visit to New Egypt in May in his family's Lee
Brothers/Shack Automotive Hawk Dietz. On Saturday night he got the final
podium spot just three laps from the end by taking the high route around
Dickerman.

        Dickerman held on for fourth in his own Challenger VW while
Courtwright regrouped for fifth in his Courtwright Fontana owned by the
Starretts of Yorktown, Va.  Rounding out the top 10 were Mark Freeland of
Ickesburg, Pa.; Fred Schell of Phoenixville, Pa.; Gary Mondschein of
Stewartsville, N.J.; Mike Piersig of Langhorne, Pa., who had led the
initial lap; and Craig Rochelle of Hackettstown, N.J.

        Besides the yellow for Courtwright the pace was slowed by five
other cautions. The second yellow flew with 14 laps down when Mike Lapp of
Slatington, Pa., stopped in the middle of turn one. Another lap wasn't even
in the books before Freeland stalled low in turn two, spoiling a better
finish for Freeland and the Exportise team, which was running fourth at the
time. There was a yellow for debris with 16 laps down and two laps later it
flew again when Donnie Trent II of Honeybrook, Pa., rolled to a stop in
turn two when he blew an oil line. Trent had been doing great up to that
point, as he had worked his way up to third before his troubles hit.

        Three laps later the sixth and final caution waved for Doug Borger
of Kunkletown, Pa., who got a little assist into the frontstretch fence.

        "I wanted this one real bad," the happy winner said. "To win an
ARDC event is great because you know you've beat a lot of classy people. I
hope everyone enjoyed the show and that ARDC can have a lot more races at
this track, because it's great."

        Dickerman led all eight laps enroute to victory in the first heat,
while Bull had a nice battle with Freeland before winning the second
eight-lap qualifier.

        Two more dirt-track races remain on the ARDC CARQUEST Midget Series
calendar, including next Saturday's show at Lincoln Speedway in New Oxford,
Pa. and the non-wing race at Lincoln Sept. 12. Including the
non-winners/no-points race at Flemington (N.J.) Speedway Sept. 6, three
more pavement shows remain too. The two that carry points are at Oswego
(N.Y.) Speedway Sept. 5 and the season finale at Langley  (Va.) Speedway
Sept. 19.

        Kobylarz now leads the driver point standings over Stimely,
Freeland, DiMario, Schell, Mondschein, Mark Wakefoose of Hopatcong, N.J.,
Courtwright, Gary Halteman of Gilbertsville, Pa. and Bull.

        One of only four women ARDC CARQUEST Midget Series car owners,
Claudette Starrett of Yorktown, Va., tops the owners' standings. She's
followed by Roger McKeehan of Newville, Pa.; defending car owner champion
Harold Yetter of Sciota, Pa.; ARDC President Ray McCabe of New Britain,
Pa.; Schell; her husband, C. Douglas Starrett; Christine Wakefoose of
Hopatcong, N.J.; David Halteman of Gilbertsville, Pa.; Gillespie and Keith
Mory of Alburtis, Pa.
