I found an online source that estimated F1 salaries for the year
from Jun '11 to Jun '12 - only mentioned 3 drivers, not all of them.
It appeared to be based on info. from the Forbes Rich List.

Alonso $32m (Sal/Win $29, Endorse. $3m)
Schumacher $30m ( $17 $10)
Hamilton $28m ( $25 $3)

Hamilton's McLaren 5-year deal was supposed to be worth $138m, which
averages out at $27.6m per year.

His Mercedes deal may be £20m per year over three years (£60m/$96m),
$32m per year.

Most 'Rich List' publications show him as worth £50m (Jenson is at £48m).

Kimi's Ferrari deal was supposed to be worth $51m per year (3 years?).

Where is Eddie Irvine on the rich list? He was never well paid by the team.

Perhaps that's for the last year only, when he supposedly got $17m as
compensation for Ferrari ending contract early? At the time his salary
was usually estimated to be $30-32m per year.

I haven't seen any recent list, but he was listed with a net worth of
£90m last time I saw one.

Pause to check Wikipedia - it says he was worth £160m in 2006, which
put him joint 301st in the UK list.

Most of his money comes from property, he was a millionaire before
reaching F1.

I thought that Johnny Dumfries (Marquess of Bute) was the wealthiest F1
driver, but in 2008 he 'only' had £125m.

If I remember correctly, a year or two ago I was reading a feature about
Eddie Irvine, which claimed that he did a lot better *after* his F1
career and was a very smart investor, who managed to multiply the money
he earned in F1.
However, I didn't know he was millionaire *before* joining the F1. And
nothing of that kind was mentioned in that feature. He was described as
one of a very few sportsman who managed his after-sports life to be even
better than his active sports-life. At least in terms of money.

Was he a Japanese F3000 star? I assume they were paid fortunes.
