So far a ghastly waste of 27 million squids. Hey ho.

Tomorrow, however, I'm off to watch the road race at Box Hill!

1.5hrs, beamed to more people live than most $50M Hollywood movies get
through a cinema. Pound for pound, I'd say it was fairly decent value.
Thought it was way better than I feared.

Box Hill? Lovely place to start with, should be pretty good there. Now I
want to wax on about my weekends hanging out at Rykers and racing the
Mickys. Best not.....

Anyway, Tuesday I have them riding right past my house. I dont even have
to go out side!!!! In fact, Im trapped here. So, ironically, less
exercise that day than normal because of the Olympics!!!

Worth watching it for Betty & 007, and Mr Bean.

You mean everything but 007 and Mr Bean? I've never had much time for
Mr Bean so have been surprised at his global popularity. I didn't see a
great deal but that inclusion was very clever.

I was very disappointed to miss the Morris Dancing. Anyone know when in
the ceremony that was.

Yeah, me too. I have been an archetypal Olympics cynic, but watching that
ceremony, I found some of the cynicism slipping away. He did a really good
job of portraying Britain through the ages, and of celebrating the ordinary
working men and women of this country rather than just the elites.

Before they mentioned it on the commentary, I was contrasting the precision
of the Beijing ceremony with the organised chaos of this one, and felt that
that suited Britain so much better.

I didn't really get why in the opening bit, he illustrated each of the home
nations with a Rugby moment. That seemed really out of place.

if you had actually paid attention to my post you would have seen that it
was not the British team but various other nations that had obviously
been provided with flags and no doubt thought they were showing respect
to the host nation & would be horrified to learn the truth.
i have no doubt that if any other nations flag was displayed upside down
there would have been a major international incident.

90% in the UK wouldn't know which way the wide strips are supposed to go
- nor would we give a shit.

I'm more than happy that I can go weeks - months even, without seeing a
Union Flag. Unlike most nations we feel there are more important things
to worry about than a fucking flag. I'm not going to run for a gun if I
see a crowd burning our flag - I'm not going to press my right hand
against my heart when it's raised or lowered. And I'm one of the
quickest on my feet and away when the National Anthem is played.

The American obsession with their flag leaves me utterly bemused. There
apparently has to be a huge one in the office of every senator, congressman
and any other public office holder, no official can appear on tv without one
hanging limply in the background and there was even a ruckus some time ago
when Obama once appeared on tv without an american flag lapel pin on his
jacket because clearly he can't be a real patriot without one stuck on his
bloody chest. Like he's devoted years of his life to running the bloody
country but only a poxy lapel pin proves he really means it?

Eejits.
