Remember the classic Scriptural proof of the Lord's interest in things
mechanical, re King David: "For the sound of his Triumph was heard in
the city."
For any folk unaware of the toxic group of hate mongers calling themselves the Westboro Baptist Church, be aware that many of them are lawyers and much of their income is from very successfully suing people who attack them.

I always thought that the "Lord" (in all his non-existent,
ficticious glory) actually rode astride a Royal Enfield.

Yes, quite correct & valid.
For quite a bit of time, I was the senior commander dealing
with many "protest" type gatherings.
Interestingly, I was able to find that the "Westboro" * group
was 'thorny' ** but not too bad. ***
They were quite internally self disciplined. They were intelligent
and informed enough.
So, the main problems were more, the "counter-protest"
citizens & groups that gathered.
* Let me be clear to the less informed,
although this group uses the word "Baptist" in their name,
no broader implications from that word, should be drawn.
** As to "thorny", yes, they were very well informed and
understanding about how far they could push their issues & points.
And VERY good at successfully pushing everyone's
"hot buttons".
*** As to "bad", they had rather despicable messages,
and posters, and inflamatory speech,
but, in the bottom line, I can not recall any case where
their followers, and my officers, fought or injured each other.
So, when I did my homework properly, and told them
"that is private property, the representative of the owner
does not want you there, and if any of your members enter it,
I will cause them to be arrested and booked. I have
considerable confidence they will be prosecuted and
I think will probably be convicted.
They understood.
And, this is totally opposite of my experiences with,
say animal rights groups.
They routinely had individuals get carried away & go violent.
"Shame on these people for worshipping these athletes instead of following the plain commandments of their God:'there shall be no DDRS, coanda exhausts or flexible wings'"
The Westboro people are the same ones who protested at funerals of American soldiers because they were convinced we were all going to Hades for our complicity in allowing homosexuals to have rights. Or something. It's hard to get a grasp on these wingnuts.

You'd think they'd have something better to do on a Sunday.

Please Noj, do give an example of what politician "chased" any votes from the Westboro church?
And respectfully back to Dan, their main goal seems to be to push "free speech", even when it is not popular.

There main goal is to push their twisted intolerant ideas and they USE the freedom of speech to do it.

ITYM they ABUSE the freedom of speech to do it.

Any suggestion that they're reasonable and well behaved
could be nothing less than a bald faced attempt at deception.

Right. You see, their holding signs saying that gawd hates
fags, are glad (s)he's dead, it's the price America pays for
immoral behavior ... at the funeral of a recently departed
loved one isn't for purposes of inciting violence or fostering
hatred, they're simply engaging in the academic pursuit and
philosophical exercise of investigating and pushing the
boundaries of free speech.
Either you're that idiotic or desperately hope and earnestly
trust that your desired audience will be.

Standing on the outside - practically all of your churches/religions are extreme.
If you want an example of how we in UK view such people, take Tony Blair. If we'd known the fucking idiot had taken to talking to Dog and was desperate to convert to the popes gang - he would never have been elected, yet along become prime minister.

You're horribly, perhaps even terminally confused and
have likely regressed beyond efficacious assistance.

They don't need to investigate - the Supreme Court has already ruled that they can't be touched under the First Amendment.

Churches in general. Cos it would be political suicide to admit you don't believe the fairy-stories that many Americans appear vehemently to. And to think they accuse the Muslims opf being extreme fundamentalists !

Reminds me of the jokeabout the agnostic dyslexic insomniac - lies awake all night worrying about whether there really is a Dog.

Don't forget, huge numbers of septics were thrown out of their countries for being religious nuts. Those that weren't made up their own - how many of the loony fuckers are there on the telly every day?
