Can't imagine NBC is going to air FP, Qualy and full pre-Race shows.

NBC has a dedicated cable sports channel (think ESPN). How much
coverage there would be each weekend, and how many events would be
over-the-air on the NBC network, I imagine are matters in negotiation.

Good old Sam.

Had to go to war with my cable provider to get Speedvision on the (pay)
channel line-up.

Thank goodness! Although SpeedTV does an excellent job and the
announcers are all excellent, Bob Varsha is boring and brings
no excitement to the race and you are not going to get more Americans to
watch when the two color commentators have non-American accents. I'm not
bashing the SpeedTV broadcasters, but you sure aren't going to expand F1 in
the U.S. with those three
announcers and being on Speed. Of course NBC Sports may have worse
announcers with British accents, so who knows. Still, from everything I
heard, there is going to be a lot of money put in NBC Sports and that might
mean multiple replays of F1 races on
NBC Sports Network, if they go after the rights.

I'm not bashing British accents either. I love Murray Walker and wish
Varsha was more like him. It's Go Go Go for F1 on NBC Sports!

It's called NBC Sports Network...and it is a recent launch.

Very true. But SpeedTV has been an upper tier cable/satellite network, so
a lot of people in the past and NOW still don't
get SpeedTV. So there is very little hope of growing F1 in the U.S. unless
F1 goes back to a more popular cable network like
ESPN (not going to happen) or a network that wants to grow like NBC Sports.
NBCSports owner should have the power to
force cable companies to carry the network on first tier/basic cable
packages.

Really? Bernie, according to that report, is taking his business
elsewhere. Now reports are that he's dropped the sanctioning fee on
some of the recently re-signed races, so now how is he to get more
money into FOM (which is, after all, his job)? How about signing a new
deal with a US network for more money? There will be 4 races next year
in reasonable viewing hours for the US audience, 2 of them in the USA
and 2 more in the Americas. Maybe the value of F1 in the US has just
gone up?

It's important to understand who Bernie works for. Although he's
locked into a multi-sided relationship with the teams, promoters, FIA
and TV networks, his first duty is to FOM and their shareholders.

Remember too that the more money FOM make, the more the teams get from
FOM.

More likely, NNC/Universal will force acceptance of a bundle of channels
at higher programming costs that cable providers will be reluctant and
slow to adopt, meaning a blackout while the foot-dragging negotiation
continues.

Ah, found NPCSport last night. The channel is loaded with crap progaming, and that's on the weekend.

NBC will air four races the Canadian Grand Prix in June, and the
final three races of the season in November while the remaining 16
races will air on NBC Sports Network. All practice and qualifying
sessions will also be on the cable station.

Miller said the intent is to broadcast everything live, but the
network is working through a small number of scheduling conflicts. All
20 races will be live streamed on NBC Sports Group's live-stream platform.

NBCSN is the re-branding of the OLN/Versus Network. It has been around since 1995 as the Outdoor Life Network. Originally they showed hunting and fishing. Later they showed Tour de France and America's Cup Yachts. In 2009 they started broadcasting the IndyCar series with more coverage than that series had ever experienced on any network. I would have to rate the coverage as excellent even if the announcers are a bit slack.

Yes, you're correct. I totally forgot about the liniage. IIRC the
re-brand is recent.

Except that they said they will, at least on NBC-Sports-Network. Only a few
races will roll over to NBC itself, just like Speed and Fox do it now.
