Would you suggest that the parliamentary systems of the UK or Canada are more democratic?
Last time I voted in Canada there wasn't a member of the Government elected west of Manitoba. Doesn't seem terribly representative. Then there was the whole Mulrooney-stuffing-the-senate episode.
Just sticking to the Canadian theme of this thread.

NO , those were Al Gore voters that proudly proclaimed " we were too stupid to know how to punch a hole in a ballot , or at least ask for help from the polling workers to clear up the " confusions".
See the Idiots that didnt understand how to vote properly in Fla were unable to elect their president.

You must be proud of your New Senator HillBilly Clinton . WHile Bush was giving his first post 9-11 national address on how we would get those responsible for the WTC disaster , Hillbilly was caught on TV during that speech responding to Bush statements by rolling her eyes and clapping as if she had razor blades between her hands. No doubt she was wishing that WTC was attacked when Bubba was president so she could take any credit for revenging the terrorists. YOu NYers deserve being stuck with that witch for 5 more years . Maybe by then NYers will finall send the Clintoons packing back to their inbred Arkansas where they came from.

Actually Lincoln did some sort of "service" in the black hawk "war", it was probably a little rougher than the Texas Air National Gaurd. But I've heard some pretty funny stories about Gore's Viet Nam tour.
> Part of the point was the fact that it was meaningless.. buddy > above claims gore failed out of divinity school.. and Bush has an > MBA... at least I didn't lie...
Maybe you should read a little more before calling people liars. I know thats not the liberal thing to do but you could at least try it for a change.
Gore's undergraduate transcript from Harvard is riddled with C's, including a C-minus in introductory economics, a D in one science course, and a C-plus in another. "In his sophomore year at Harvard," the Post reported, "Gore's grades were lower than any semester recorded on Bush's transcript from Yale." Moreover, Gore's graduate school record - consistently glossed over by the press - is nothing short of shameful. In 1971, Gore enrolled in Vanderbilt Divinity School where, according to Bill Turque, author of "Inventing Al Gore," he received F's in five of the eight classes he took over the course of three semesters. Not surprisingly, Gore did not receive a degree from the divinity school. Nor did Gore graduate from Vanderbilt Law School, where he enrolled for a brief time and received his fair share of C's. (Bush went on to earn an MBA from Harvard).

Yeah , AL Gore was known to have patrolled inside the camp fences ready at any moment to jump out and shoot any enemy intruder with his Cannon Camera.

Even accepting your source as accurate he didn't "fail-out" and you didn't mention the undergrad degree ... So I apologize ... You did not lie .. you simply presented only those facts you wanted to in a way as cast aspersions on anothers character... so not exactly the truth either..

The reason Ireland are in is that they will get a lot of money, not control...

I certainly would not. And that is my point. The number of times I have seen American after American claiming to live in the true democracy whilst appearing ignorant of any of its failings is far too often to count. You will find a healthy appraisal of the failings of the systems of government in the majority of European countries. We do not appear to be so blind to the limitations of the various systems.

I am not in favour of a USA version of the EU. However, I was simply following your line of reasoning in trying to compare the EU with the USA. Therefore view the above as hypothetical. To be honest that is exactly how it was meant anyway. I was not asking whether you thought the complete legal and political unification of Europe was a good thing I asked that when or if that happens which of those three would you choose as the way of electing a leader democratically. Of course the 3rd option was flippant, substitute your own more sensible answer there if you like. But I would appreciate your answer as you seek to defend the US's lack of democracy in their process by trying to use the EU as an analogy.

Usual cop out.
Why not try addressing the issues I raised. From your in depth study of your constitution please explain why it dictates that you elect your president by an electoral college rather than by a democratic majority of the voting citizens. Whilst doing so elicudate as to why you think that system was chosen at the time and try postulating why such a less than democratically optimum system might be less than appropriate in the 21st century.
