p.s. I suggest telling the freaking morons how you feel about the brave new
world. You can start with the new "no child left behind" policy wherein
schools must, by law, turn over names and addresses of all students to
military recruiters or lose their Federal financial aid.

are a coward and a wimp and a wuss and a little girl's blouse (not
even a big girl's one). If not, then enlist today you loser.

No, I don't. What is compulsory, at the moment, is that all males must
register at a post office upon reaching their 18th birthday for the
possibilty of a draft. The US military is currently all volunteer.

The schools don't have to do jack. If they want federal money then
they have to turn over the names. If a child (and his parents) don't
want to enlist - they can just say no thanks.

The educational benefits and college aid for young people enlisting in
the military is excellent. A lot of working class and poor children
have become doctors, lawyers, graduate degreed engineers or MBAs from
top schools thanks to educational benefits after & during from
military service. It's all voluntary. The schools and the kids don't
have to do anything.

Heh! He's gonna take on all the David's one by one. Do stop this
childish blowhard behaviour, Brain. It neither impresses the women nor
frightens the men...

One by one, or all at once. Either way, if your family is as feeble as you
are, it won't be much of a challenge.

You're either misinformed or deliberately misleading people.
Read on.

Not according to a former co-worker of mine who was in the
US military. The "GI bill" that supposedly pays $25,000
for college requires you pay in $7,000 at the start. In
other words, $7,000 (plus any interest accumulated) of the
$25,000 is your own money back from the government when you
get out. And if you leave early, you forfeit your $7,000.

That's hardly an incentive to sign up.

Forget the doublespeak term "selective service", it's a
form of blackmail. Americans who don't sign lose some of
their rights, not just financial benefits.

According to the American Forces Network (AFN) I watch in
Korea, "selective service" isn't. Refusing to sign the
paper is a criminal offense, unless the ads are lying.

And what does the "selective service" entail? If you
sign up and the government reinstates the draft, you are
required to enlist or you're a criminal. Democracy is
wonderful isn't it? Too bad Shrub doesn't think so.
