if you had actually paid attention to my post you would have seen that it was not the British team but various other nations that had obviously been provided with flags and no doubt thought they were showing respect to the host nation & would be horrified to learn the truth.
i have no doubt that if any other nations flag was displayed upside down there would have been a major international incident.

Alister,
What about all those French, Japanese, and Swiss flags?
(A little) more seriously, I didn't see the display of the flags. Were they attached to poles? By the British? Or were they flags without poles? If so, was it just that people were holding the flags by the wrong side?

I am sure you would if your national flag was flown incorrectly (assuming of course it is one that can be inverted)

French, Swiss, Japanise? can they even be flow upside down? I think not.
Yes they were attached to poles & I am sure they would have been provided by the organisers, so it is the organisers that I am upset with not the competitors.
It is depressing the number of British people who do not even know there IS a wrong way to fly our flag.

90% in the UK wouldn't know which way the wide strips are supposed to go - nor would we give a shit.
I'm more than happy that I can go weeks - months even, without seeing a Union Flag. Unlike most nations we feel there are more important things to worry about than a fucking flag. I'm not going to run for a gun if I see a crowd burning our flag - I'm not going to press my right hand against my heart when it's raised or lowered. And I'm one of the quickest on my feet and away when the National Anthem is played.

The American obsession with their flag leaves me utterly bemused. There apparently has to be a huge one in the office of every senator, congressman and any other public office holder, no official can appear on tv without one hanging limply in the background and there was even a ruckus some time ago when Obama once appeared on tv without an american flag lapel pin on his jacket because clearly he can't be a real patriot without one stuck on his bloody chest. Like he's devoted years of his life to running the bloody country but only a poxy lapel pin proves he really means it?

Then please hurry up & have your emigration request approved
You clearly do not want to be here and will not be missed.
This county is called Great Britain, if it want for people like yourself who don't care it would be called F'ing Amazing Britain.

It bothers me because it is insulting to my country.
It is bad enough that individuals get it wrong. for an official organisation to make such an error is inexcusable.

No it's not.
If it were intentional it would be.
It's not so it's an innocent mistake.
If you choose to be insulted when no-one is acting in an insulting
manner that is your issue. It's the sort of non-issue that I really
find aggravating...
...God, I'm really annoyed at you now!!!
That's what's fucking wrong with this country little twerps looking for
things to complain about instead of appreciating all the good things.

Alister,
Thanks for the clarification. The organizers should certainly know better. Wonder if the flag-mounting labor was outsourced.
Incidentally, an upside down Philippine flag means the country is in a state of war!

I do appreciate all the good things in this country & promote then always,
This is why issues like this are important to me.

Great Britain and Northern Ireland. (Great Britain is, like Italy, a geographical expression...)
