I know this is the wrong group, but take a look at this:

"My friend is a teacher's assistant for a Grade 1 class. Knowing that I'm a
racing fanatic and that I'm not keen on the IRL, she brought this home to
share with me:

http://s95093917.onlinehome.us/IRL/healmostdied.htm

My first reaction was to laugh out loud, but then I realized..
it's quite SAD, actually, isn't it?

If I had the home mailing addresses for every IRL driver, I'd be inclined to
send it to each & every one. I'd love to be there at their kitchen tables to
see their reactions when they opened an envelope and pulled that picture
out.."

Whether the people on this board enjoy the IRL - CART - OWRS - Formula One or
any other motorsport, I feel safe in saying... Your no race fan.

First of all, that is "you're", not "your". Why do NASCAR and IRL fans
(especially) always get this wrong?
I bet that 6-year old would have got it right..

Apparently many of the drivers were not happy about the wheel-banging
either, agreeing that is was plain out dangerous out there this past
weekend. See article at IndyStar.com called "Full contact racing":
http://www.indystar.com/articles/5/178249-5255-188.html

From the article:
- Castronveves: "Those guys are crazy. It's a great show for the fans, but
they're taking way too many chances."
- Sheckter: "There was just a lot of wheel-banging going on. I'm surprised
it didn't happen sooner."
- Penske: "This isn't dodge 'em at 200 mph; these are open-wheel cars. This
is a game where you've got to take care of each other."

Obviously SOME drivers still do not get it, yet even the ones that do get it
still continue to race each week and then breathe a sigh of relief when they
make it to the end of the day unscathed. I thought this was motorsports, not
Russian Roulette! Motosports is dangerous, nobody is denying that, but why
make things more risky than they need to be (answer: wheel banging makes
great tv excitement; replays/news-reel footage, and pack-racing gets NASCAR
fans excited & they're successful, so it should be something to be emulated,
apparently).

A 6-year old child was left with left with the impression that it was only
because of an angel watching over Buddy that he walked away with his life
this week. That's a powerful image. I guarantee you NO driver anywhere would
want to see some kid at school draw a painting for his teacher that was
similar to the one posted but this time omitted the word "almost". If it
takes that startling picture to knock some sense into them, I've got no
qualms with that. I don't want to see *any* drivers get injured à la Brack,
or worse yet, killed. If that makes me less of a race fan in your eyes, so
be it.

But you didn't talk about just ANY drivers. You said IRL. And you worded your
sentence in such a way as to make me believe you would relish seeing pain in
the eyes of IRL racers. That is NOT a race fan. Racers die in ALL series.
Should I go into the drivers that have died in CART? F-1? Rally? For you to
put the onus on the IRL is sick. You can cut it anyway you want, but no matter
what you say, you tried to use your post as a twisted cut at the IRL.

I have argued and prodded and poked with several guys in here. It's good
natured ripping. You, your just an ass. I can't believe a single person in
this group, CART / OWRS or IRL would join you in taking glee in watching a
racer open a picture like that.

No...I was right. You're not even close to being a fan.

Agreed, that was the subject we were discussing. If you need it spelled out,
I will oblige:

No, not of seeing pain in their eyes, but seeing how a child's simple
drawing could (hopefully) drive home the message that they really are 'this'
close to having a disaster. Sometimes, the shocking truth only sinks in when
it is presented in a stark, cold, and brutal manner. And yes race car
drivers die in all series, but again, we are discussing the IRL specifically
here. They are the ones running in ridiculously-close packs at high speeds
in open wheel cars.

I

t wasn't twisted at all - the onus should be on the IRL - to stop the
insanity before we have another Brack situation.

I don't ask or expect other's approval, and besides there would be no glee
other than the satisfaction of a driver or drivers saying "woah, it IS crazy
out there and I don't want to continue putting my life unnecessarily out on
the line that far every weekend - I'm going to do something about it".

> No...I was right. You're not even close to being a fan.

Oh? I can guarantee you I've spent more days at race tracks than you this
year and racked up many more hours travelling to tracks across North America
(at my expense) than you in order to *volunteer* my time for the sport I
love. Does that disqualify me?

Oops - typo. I'm not perfect either. Btw, "You, your just an ass" is *still*
not correct (I consider that poor grammar, not a typo).

Neither does it qualify you.

I beg to differ.
I don't take a week off from work, drive 24 hours(non-stop) to Florida,
stand trackside for 10-15-hours a day all week (unpaid), then drive home
24-hrs(non-stop) and return to work the following day - simply because I
have nothing better to do. And I work overtime during the week so I can be
at the track on race weekends (for both professional & more-local *amateur*
events).

More importantly, I put *my* life at an increased risk (marshalling) so that
a race can take place safely, with the drivers knowing that they have
trained & competent crews watching their backs. If it wasn't for hardcore
race fans like myself who volunteer our time at tracks across the world,
there would be no racing.

But I guess you're right. You seem to know everything already.

Well, can you believe it? We actually agree completely on something.

He is an idiot, and a moron, along with being a rather sick and
demented cretin, too.

Kind of like Gary Shell.
