What IS this? (vw service left it in car) (picture) - knigge.jpg (0/1)

I left my New Jetta in for service (making strange knocking sound in
engine/gearshift rattle, first was normal, second fixed), and when I
got it back i found this on the left floor next to the drivers seat.
Must have fallen out of the service guys pocket when he was road
testing it. Anyone ID it? Its a short piece of bent cylindrical metal
attatched by a chain to a small block-ish shapped piece of plastic
with a slot in it. It says, among other things, 'Knigge' on it.

I THINK it's the gauge they use to center the stick when they align the
shifter linkage. Not sure tho. anyone?
