they don't control anything... Al was right, even vw was wrong... Just noticed while scanning a factory owner's manual for a friend that VW described the engine as Air cooling by fan, thermostat controlled... odd...

Still havnt had time to replace this but was fiddling with the new ( mexican or brazilian) one and noticed the push rod was very loose in shaft ( noticeable side play) whereas the OEM German was a snug fit even after 40 years. Help needed. Fitting fan shroud to new case

I know there is some trimming involved. I have trimmed some of the shroud, but i know dozens of you have been through this process, and can narrow down for me exactly where to trim. Maybe filing the case is necessary. I just have a longblock, and started putting the tin on. I want it to seal properly for obvious reasons...it seems that... more »
