If I wanted to spray paint at home, what's the bare minimum I would need to
paint in terms of a room/booth set up?

If I was only applying primer, do I need anything?

TIA,

Some of my thoughts and experiences on that at my site, if you haven't
read the Paint article already Mel. Primer is much less forgiving, you
mess up, sand down, shoot some more.

According to Eric Allred's page, you just need a clean garage with a wet
floor...

If you're talking about HVLP, then I'd look into buying one of those $200
canopies that will cover you up, and then run some thick-mil plastic around
the sides.

From everything that the coaches have taught me... a place that's
undistrubed for a few days..... no dirt... no dust.... no air currents...
even temperature....

Your final job will depend on how much prep is done.

I rembember some sites talking about temporary spray booths made from
plastic inside the garage.

Anyone have a link on the site... can't remember where or when I saw it.

This is probably more than you need, but a while back I saw this website on
making a paintbooth at home...

Something you need to thing about is:

Your safety

IF you are spraying a 2K urethane primer, you have to worry about
isocyanates. Look for words like, isocyanate, biisocyanates, etc.
Sometimes the isocyanates are only found in the activator some make sure you
read both labels.

Isocyanates are NOT something to ignore. Being exposed one time can have
life-changing affects. Take a look at this link:

Nice paint booth. I made a similar one using PVC tubing and plastic tarp. it
cost just under $20 if I remember right. Of course it was only big enough
for a beetle. Looked like a Giant Dog house.

...I particularly liked this line on the site:

"I D/A'ed the entire car, and the next day, my wonderful girlfriend Jan went
over the whole thing by hand."

...Jan is such a sweet girl....lol

John,

I have 'your manual' in a binder. I use it as primer (no pun intended) for
bodywork. I'm also re-reading it as I go throught my autoboday course and
see how right you are.
