I have (or rather, my Wife has) a 96 SW2 5spd, and it was towed DOA to the Saturn
dealer over the weekend. Timing chain snapped. I found out that there is a common
problem unique to the 5spd Saturns that cause an overheating of the 4th bearing,
and causes excessive bearing wear. This in turn allows the cam to "float" back and
forth, which in turn stretches the timing chain. I have heard this in the past,
but didn't believe it until now.

Has anyone else heard this? Is this a known Saturn problem?

Was there any noise before it went? I thought a work chain got pretty loud
before it let loose.
