Merry Christmas and Happy New Year to all!

And a happy 50th birthday to me.

My family and friends are the best. I don't normally hint about what I'd
like, but when it was communicated to me that they needed some
direction, I thought long and hard about some nice thing for my Miata,
but I realize that I'd be doing those anyway. What I really wanted was
something that I'd always found reasons to put off to another day: a 3
day open-wheel racing course.

And so everyone chipped in and I'm probably taking the April 13th course
at Skip Barber's school...

...at Laguna Seca!

I was lucky enough to do it a few years ago at Indy Raceway Park (now Lucas
Oil Raceway). Took me a while to get the smile off. Check it out at

Awesome! I hear the corkscrew is a lot steeper than it looks on TV.

Very nice!

I should have replied ages ago, but I wanted to hold on until I got my
own course booked or at least picked.

And now I do. I just emailed Skip Barber to register for the 3 day
course at Laguna Seca June 11-13. That's a Monday to Wednesday, which
should work out well for me and my GF who will hopefully join me for the
drive down from Vancouver prior to the course, but who will definitely
be there for the 4-6 day drive back from the course up the coast
highway, through the wine country of California...

...the whole thing should be epic.

:-D

As it happens, it is also my father's birthday. He died 3 years ago and
one of the things we shared was a love of motorsports, so it's a very
fitting day for me to do this.
