How do I reset the "Service Needed" indicator on my 2000 Jeep Grand Cherokee
overhead display?

It turned on at 7000 miles.

I believe you disconnect the battery....then reconnect...something speedy
oil change does not know how to do. I have had to do this every 7000 miles
on my 94 Grand Cherokee since birth.

It's reset via the overhead console. Cycle through (I forget the exact
procedure for my wife's '99 JGC but this is close) the settings with the
passenger-side button and when you get to the oil change interval, I
think you press and hold the Reset button down for several seconds. The
procedure is well spellled out in the owners manual.

Probably the same way I reset it in my 99 GCL. Hit the menu button (I
think it's called Menu, the one that selects through various info)
until you get to the one you want to reset, then hit "Reset". Or you
can hit the other button (don't remember it's label) to change the
interval.

Would this be the same for a 97? I don't recall having any readout about
the oil change...

That was too easy. You press STEP until the "next service at 0" appears then
press & hold reset until it changes back to 7000whatever.

Then I drive to the jeep dealer & have him change the oil & rotate the tires
'cause I don't have the time, patience, or wheel ramps to do it myself
anyway. <grin>

Thanks for the help people.

97 and 98's are two different beasts and some 97's didn't come with that
option
