Hi Earle...sorry to have to tell you that it is almost impossible to
be an atheist, especially a liberal God-hating one! The last find of
scrolls and codices at Nag Hammadi in Egypt, in 1945, revealed a whole
new side of early Christianity that was suppressed by the early
Church, but now is available for everyone to read about.
In those early texts, the idea was that all of humanity has a divine
spark within....in other words, the divine is inside yourself....This
early belief is reflected in a quote attributed to Jesus in the Gospel
of Thomas, a heretical text, in which Jesus says...
"If you bring forth what is within you, what you bring forth will save
you. If you do not bring forth what is within you, what you do not
bring forth will destroy you."
So it turns out that only if you hate yourself can you hate God,
according to those early texts.
Furthermore, upon careful reading of these ancient texts, I can find
no evidence that Jesus never owned a Jeep or even had the slightest
interest in driving one.
And that is my Christmas message.
Happy Holidays to all.
Larry
Merry Christmas to you too!
Earle

That is simply a 360-degree turn, returning you to the original,
paraphrased as 'God is within'.
It's heretical only in that it went against church propaganda/dogma of its
day.
And scrolls and codices and fables notwithstanding, they too are is
still based on a belief system.
And belief, of any sort whatsoever, is just that: belief. Just as 'faith'
is no more than faith.
Neither one qualifies as fact until proven.

Yes, /according to those texts/. And these days, monkeys, baboons and
Great Apes can write some very good text, along with many other animals.

Well, who or whatever he was, he at least had the good taste to be
disinterested in the unimportant and trivial.
