That's a logical assumption, and probably true much of the time, but
the 210 is getting more and more usage these days, and a bad accident or
construction can snarl things up pretty badly.

Thanks for all of the input on this. I actually discovered a little
thing called the "Ventura County Line" (Metrolink). Since I'm staying
in Ventura and not Santa Barbara (as originally planned), this portion
of the trip is no longer required.

By the way, should I bring my FasTrak? Are there HOT lane
opportunities in SoCal? I know last time I was on I-15, it looked like
Caltrans was building that into the expansion project north of San
Diego.

The HOT lanes in San Diego are a good 50-80 miles south of anything in
Los Angeles or San Bernardino Counties. You won't get near them. Nor
will there be any point in taking advantage of the CA-91 HOT lane as
the 91 is way out of your way. You can bring the FasTrak if you want, but
I'm pretty sure you won't need it unless there are HOT lanes between Ventura
and Los Angeles that I don't know about.
