My oil usage looks to be about 1 quart for every 2000 miles or so.
I was concerned as first, since I also don't expect this from a Japanese
engine. My last car (Isuzu Imark) did not burn a drop at all, all the
way up to 137000 miles. My Rodeo engine seems to run fine however, and
so long as the usage doesn't get worse, I'm not concerned. I have heard
that the slight usage is required to lubricate the value guides.
You must be right about the new cam on the 94's. I've got plenty of
low-end torque, all the way down to below idle. I'm quite impressed
with the engine, smooth, with lots of raw power.
I have to agree with you about the clutch though, this thing drives
like a truck. The shift is notchy, and it is impossible to smoothly
shift into first gear without bringing the rev's up past 1200.
The throttle control is very tempermental - a slight touch causes
the engine to surge, there is little control over the engine speed
below 1500rpm. Rather difficult to manage in a parking lot.
Another annoying thing is the tendancy for the engine to give
itself more gas when it is close to stalling - every time the
engine speed goes below idle, the revs rise to 1500rpm as soon as
the clutch is pushed in.
Oh, my mileage has been consistently 17city 21hwy (for US gallon).
