Ray,
Since you're using OE, try this: Tools > Options > Send > News Sending Format >
In HTML, set text encoding to None and set Word Wrap to 132. In Plain Text, set Word Wrap to 132.
Now your links will be sent intact as long as they're 132 characters long or less.
