I recently acquired a pair of Sanken CU-41s from a local rental company, and
while they're in good working order, one of them has some cosmetic damage to
the grille and its surrounding trim. The mic doesn't have any obvious means of
disassembly aside from a couple of indented dots on the base surround that
suggest a special tool might be needed to unscrew it. Can anyone offer more
info on how to get inside these things? A simple reshaping of the
grille/surround is all I'm after. Thanks.

Ted;

I contacted the main Sanken person in Japan, Masashi Katagiri ("Marsh").
His company, ProMedia, sells my preamps in Japan, and I have a couple of
the CU-41 mics for demo purposes. I told him of your situation, in fact
I quoted your message directly to him. Here is his response to me:

Hi John,

The special tool is required to disassemble the CU-41 since it is too
completed to repair by other persons.
OK. Tell him my mail address to follow up.

Perhaps he meant "too complicated". You can contact him at:

Good luck.

Thank you so much for your efforts on my behalf. I will contact Marsh directly
and see what else I can find out.

For all of what's gone bad here at RAP recently (OT crap etc) it's nice to see
that great information is still readily available from people like yourself.
Thanks again for continuing to be a part of what's good about this place.

Well said Ted.

I too, continue to crawl around the floor of this NG
hoping to find the tiniest crumb of useful information
from some of the wonderfully intelligent and helpful
professionals still contributing here.
