The pins surrounding the "tongue" are normally R G B
analog video components and HSync (VSync is on one of
the "little pins" in the large group of pins nearby).
So, presumably, the two pins that you have adjacent
to the tongue (ground) are HSync and one of the color
components. Together with VSync (elsewhere), this gives
you a monochrome display (I'd wager green being the
"color" still present -- some devices sync on green).
Of course, this assumes those pins weren't *broken* off...
(The DVI connector pinout has to be available online,
somewhere. Have a look to see which signals are actually
missing)
