Can someone direct me to an article or info source regarding the recording
of Moving Pictures by Rush? Would love to know the details of this
production, techniques, console used, gear used, etc, etc, etc.
I have seen a few videos from that Moving Pictures album which show a studio
scene ("Le Studio" it says)... but of course this footage was most likely
staged, etc. There's something about this production that I really dig...
it's very honest, captures the band really well... a good no-frills type of
production, but yet sounds great. It sounds like "the band" as opposed to
"a production". There's something very sonically pleasing about it. Of
course if you can appreciate the music and the performances, it makes it
that much more potent.
No, I did not get Vapor Trails yet... will do so soon though... I am unhappy
to hear that many people here at RAP do not like it... the only Rush album I
never got into was Hold Your Fire... just too damn "`80's sounding".
Hemispheres may still top the list, but Moving Pictures just sounds so damn
good.
Thanks - wg
I've asked about it here in the past. IIRC, it was done on an early digital
multi-track, probably a Mitsubeastie or a 3M and mixed on an SSL E. I can hear
the SSL part of it. Either way it's a decent sounding album. I pull it out as a
reference disc now and then.

Little OT, but I just dug out my Moving Pictures CD...on the
insert/lyrics there is a full page photo of Geddy Lee, full page photo
of Alex Lifeson, but not 1 pic of Neil Peart anywhere in the booklet!
What's up with that?

Studio Morin Heights, which used to be Le Studio. Rush has done a lot of
work there.

There was a picture of him on the artwork for the original vinyl
release, but for some reason, or maybe by accident, it was omitted from
the CD. Don't know why.

Maybe it's just one more subtle play on the album title?

Sorry - this is somewhat off topic, but I can't resist anything Rush-related
(I'm still high on the new album):
I have quite a few different releases of Moving Pictures (something like six
versions). I believe the version you are referring to was the very first
CD release - they cut off the picture of Peart (which was on the original
inner album jacket).
All of the more recent "Rush re-remasters" series of CD releases not only
sound significantly better (20bit remasters), but also include all of the
photos, as well as Hugh Syme's excellent artwork and graphic design
carefully corrected to reflect to how they appeared in the original album
releases.

I heard it was beacause Peart doesn't show up on photographic
film anymore.
I could be wrong.
