They are, in fact, pretty much the standard field recorder that everybody
uses these days. Or they use one of the smaller 2-track versions.

I'm still using a PortaDAT when I need something luggable, much to Mike's
dismay, but I don't do enough of that kind of work to make it worth the money
to trade up.

The price is a *lot* of gigs at my end of the market.
