Is it Spring or has an end finally come to rec.audio.pro.

I've never seen so little go on here.

Apologies to Harvey,

Alternative social media and HTML-based conferencing takes its toll.

Actually there have been times that things were much slower than they are now. I
was just thinking the other day how busy the group was after the egregious spam
attacks from several years ago.

Almost every question posted gets a response, and most of the responses are
meaningful and helpful.

Right. Old farts pass away and younger people aren't into Usenet.

I gravely lament the fact the HTML-based forums are taking over.
I do however prefer an email list to usenet. It's easier to
check from a new computer, or a phone. I filter the messages
into a dedicated IMAP folder for each list.

I really hope rec.audio.pro is not "turning out the lights". I have
received so much help from people on here, even by just browsing.

Is there something, somewhere that is equivalent, but perhaps not
Usenet based?

Amen brother. This place is like a doctor that makes house calls.

I hate to suggest it since it seems to be so hated around
here, but google groups carries rec.audio.pro and it looks
pretty much like a web-based forum, I guess because it is.

But if you post from there, be prepared for some of the
die-hards to tell you to get a real news feed and a good
news reader. I use it myself sometimes when my news host is
a litle cranky and I find rec.audio.pro on Google to be
remarkably free of spam.

Not for me it doesn't. These newsgroups are irreplaceable in being able to
find groups of single-minded, dedicated people who are interested in
something that I am also. The threads can be followed if you came in late
and the subject is not (usually) changed to giving hearts to each other or
looking after farm animals. Most serious people I know don't like Facebook
but are burdened to join it when pushed by acquaintances and family.

I stopped reading rec.audio.pro regularly a few years ago when there were
something like 300-500 messages per day appearing on the server. I've only
just started dropping in regularly again and I'd say that it was much more
manageable now.

Oddly enough, the Pro Audio email list seems to have sprung into a bout of
activity in the last few days after a few months with just a trickle of
messages.

I have a short list of mics I'd love to buy and which I'll never be able
to afford. Same with two great preamps out there. So be it.

Whoa! I just stopped by on a whim after a 5+ year absence. Amazing to see some of the regulars still carrying the torch here. I owe much to the pros at RAP - for info & insights I'd have never gotten otherwise.

Glad to see y'all still kickin.

Best...

I played your boy's CD the other day and thought of you, Rich. Nice to
hear from you!

Shaidri finally wrote a song and I think she did well. It's a lot of fun
to play.

Should come up featured here, if you're curious. (Warning: it ain't
piano jazz!)

That's the FOH mix. Nice room.

I have multitracks for the whole show and will mix those soon. Tried
something different this time - ran everything into the MIO first, using
the 2882's pres except for the vox, which went through the GT-Q2. The
condensors and the Red-Eyes worked fine, but the dynamics definitely
sounded better through the outboard preamp.

The MIO streamed right to disc via the Metric Halo console app, and I
routed each input to a corresponding output to feed a Mackie 1402 that
Fletcher was using for the house and monitor mixes.

We'll definitely be able to get better promo videos from this concert
than we'e ever had before. The cameras were all consumer grade and SD at
that, but there were four of them, so a video editor can get a little
something going on.

indeed!
