Hello,
I'm producing a radio show and I have to delivery it to a moltitude (30) of
radiostations in MP3 format.
I am currently using Steinberg Wavelab 3.0 to encode my .wav files
(30-minutes long) to 192kbps/44.1KHz stereo.
Are there other encoders, better than the one I'm using, that you would
suggest me?
Thank you and Buon Natale
F.

I like LAME.

A co-worker went through and hit MP3 encoders with a bunch of
complex-overtone signals in an attempt to provoke audible artifacts. He
concluded that LAME did seem to be doing the best job of preserving
details of these deliberately difficult waveforms, for equivalent
compression rates.

Haven't yet gotten around to trying LAME myself. I really should, I s'pose.

I'll agree, at least for higher bitrates. I prefer Fraunhofer for low
bitrate (<64k) voice.

LAME is awesome. I had 192 kbps MP3s encoded by another program and
while playing them through my hifi system I found them to be somewhat
lifeless. Then I encoded the orginal .wav files with LAME at 192 kbps
and found them to be much better, but still there was a something
missing, like maybe there was mild compression of the material going on.
once I re-did my .wav files at 320 kbps I found them to be excellent.
Just about indistinguisable from the original files when played through
my hifi system. LAME isn't perfect, but its the best out there.
