And there you have him, folks. A true complete and utter fuckwit in the

They weren't very good mathematicians back then and they
completely skipped year "zero". But then they got the year
numbering and date wrong, too, so it is a moot point.

Nobody believes that Jesus was born in winter. All cultural, sociological
and historical evidence points to spring or maybe summer. The Dec 25
date was clearly based on 1st century Roman festivals like Saturnalia,
etc. Lots of other "Christmas" traditions like bringing trees indoors
and decorating them, exchanging gifts, etc. came from Saturnalia.

And, alas the year numbering is off as well because Dionysius
Exiguus wasn't a very good astronomer or historian. The most
popular year for Jesus' birth is 4BC because of the dates of other
people like Herod the Great and John the Baptist.

That's all fine and dandy, but why, exactly, is this in rec.audio.pro?

Fact: We are in the last year of the first decade of the 21st century.

There was no "year zero", * and that's that. The subject is not open for
discussion.

* For astronomical calculations, 1BCE is considered "year zero", because it
slightly simplifies calculations.

Because it got cross-posted from some unrelated (and likely irrelevant
illogical, idiotic, immoral and even illegal :-) newsgroup. I had trimmed
all the cross-posted groups in the pursuit of sanity.

The current storm of cross-posted irrelevant and stupid posts can be
traced directly back to those Linux "discussions". Every time another
Linux storm blows through r.a.p here, it brings all this blowing debris
with it.

I was assuming that you were asking (and wanted answered) a literal
question. If yours was a rhetorical or philosophical question, I
apologize for misreading your intent. :-)

Ah, roger that.

It looked as though you had purposely posted it here to get something
started. Evidently I've plonked the OP and the first responding poster,
making your answer the first post in the thread.

Sure, but what decade is it?

There was the "Me Decade" and then the "Neil Young Decade," and then
the "Internet Decade" and the "Stupid Asian Wars Decade." What's this
decade going to be?

We are in the recession decade.

I don't see it getting much better anytime soon, regardless what the
politicians would have us believe. The Music Biz will likely remain
one of the hardest hit, except for the hardworking major-label artists
who are running the wheels off their tourbuses.

example - I've just been offered a new project with a young band out
of Athens Ga. I'm expected to either get paid peanuts or (worse)
work on spec at below C-list points. They look like rockstars and have
a gimmic that makes them memorable. I like them. So I'll probably go
for it. If I don't, one of the other thousands of wannabe engineers in
Nashville with a recording "studio" in his closet will.
