I have used some time light version of Cubase. For some lighter works
this works fine. The first things I have missed is suitable remote
controller with jogging wheel which it can possible to move cursor
sharply forward and backward on the audio clip and maybe the razor
-button. I record and edit a lot of long speech and it is a little hard
to edit the speech with mouse. With Cubase 5 Essential I use the C12 +
remote controller, but there's no the jogging wheel which I can roll the
cursor on the audio track. Also there's no razor -button.

I have got very old, "obsolete" remote control, JLcooper CS-10. Could
somebody tell, it is possible to use this controller with Cubase 5
Essential...? There's MIDI output and inputs. What will happen if I try
to connect this controller through MIDI/USB converter cable to computer
which I use the Cubase?

Also, the mastering possibilities of the Essential are such a poor. Is
it wise to buy some version on Steinberg's Lab Series mastering
software, Which one of these is the best ( low-price) alternative
to Essential 5?

Or, can it mode wise to move straight to some more expensive version of
Cubase?

Sorry my bad english, but I try to repeat shortly my two questions:

1. Does the JLCooper CS-10 remote controller work with Cubase Essential 5 ?

2. Does the Steinberg's Lab Series mastering software ( which one of
these...? ) work with Cubase Essential 5 ?

Thanks for answers.

Not sure if it will work straight out of the box (not familiar with the
controller) but if it sends midi it can be made to work.
A Midi-to-USB-cable is the first step. You could then install midi-yoke and
midi-ox and have midi-ox translate whatever codes the controller sends out
to whatever codes Cubase needs to see.

This will require a lot of figuring-out, however.

A cheap alternative may be a Behringer BCF2000 set to mackie control
emulation, that should work with cubase, USB built-in already
