A few weeks ago, a friend and I heard an unfamiliar
female vocalist on the local pop radio station who
had the most unusual possible characteristic for
contemporary vocals -- a treatment with technique,
enunciation, and skill, but no overblown hype. No
Celine-arpeggios. No Mariah-wailing. No little-girl
whining. In fact, it actually sounded honest for a
pop artist. Pretty amazing.

The lyrics went like this:

down to the earth i fell
with dripping wings -- heavy things won’t fly

and the sky might catch on fire
and burn the axis of the world --that’s why

i prefer a sunless sky
to the glittering and
stinging in my eyes ------

and so on. Anyway, it turned out, we found out
by waiting for fifteen minutes or so for the back-
announcement, to be an artist named Nina Gordon,
who apparently since that time has begun to
explode with that very song, titled "Tonight and
For The Rest of My Life."

It can be sampled in the usual places, and The
Rev sez, czech it out!

It might be worth noting that Ms. Gordon recently split from the Chicago
based band Veruca Salt.

Whose last EP was titled "Blow It Out Your Ass, It's Veruca Salt,"
they say....
