just curious
|
| |
I've been looking for a Tandberg TR-3030 receiver. While poking around I came across a Technical Pro RX-S32. It looks cheaply built but functional. Does anybody have any information on that "Technical Pro" line of equipment?

The Beatles Mono Remasters
|

The excitement is back! At last, there are decent transfers from the original tapes that show that at least some transfer engineers have learnt the lessons from the past almost three decades of apalling transfers of analog pop/rock material to CDs. There's been no tampering, no compression, no 'cleaning-up' of a sort... more »

Ah, the good old days......
|
| |
Every so often I get caught up in the nostalgia for the good old days, as in.... "Remember when stereo was cheap, and every college kid had one, and every young couple starting out could afford the best.....". Well last night just for fun I pulled up on screen the 1961 Radio Shack Catalog and the Bureau of Labor Statistics Price Calculator (inflation... more »

Hi-end on the truly cheap!

|
| |
I just put a low-cost high-end system together for a young friend and I am truly impressed with the results! Here's what I did. Ordered a pair of Magneplanar MMG speakers directly from Magnepan - $600 Ordered a Yaqin MC 100B integrated tube amp from A Canadian Hi-Fi output on E-Bay - ~$650. [link]... more »

The artist of final decision
|
| |
All this discussion of venue, sound producers, mic herders, knob/slider jockies, etc. all comes down to what we can call the artist of final decision. This is the person listening to speakers just before jabbing the final record button. It is that event that is the only "honest" event on a recording as the... more »

The circle of confusion, additional thoughts
|
| |
The author of the blog in the original post was talking about having all loudspeakers, production and reproduction, perform to a reference. On the production end, what the artist chooses as to final product, is on the home more exactly what he experienced and wanted. Until now hifi folk have had to settle for a "best guess" duplication of... more »

Museum Sound Test
|
| |
I've been asked to do a sound test in a museum room to determine what levels of what kind of sound will bother adjacent rooms. The room will be used for parties and social events including events with music. Think harp and recorder not rock band. Can anybody suggest a test or sampler CD that would be appropriate?... more »

Choice of cartridge.
|
| |
I recently bought a Clearaudio Virtouso cartridge. Very expensive and all that.. After carefully adjusting it using my usual Baerwald protractor w/overhang adjustment and about 5 hours of playing-in (lets not start that debate again) i started serious listening, and found some peculiar things. First, The bass is.. impressing. Even a record like Rush's Presto suddenly... more »
