I watched:

ADVENTURE TIME:
The Ice King's penguin, Howard, goes amok.
The Magic Man tricks his Martian brethren into thinking Jake is him.

THE O'REILLY FACTOR
 The rumble in America
McCain: Response to Libya crisis was an 'abysmal failure'
The OReilly Stewart Rumble! What happened when they went head-to-head?

REMINGTON STEELE:
RS is framed for murder, forcing Steele to go on the lamb while Laura tries
to solve the mystery. It turns out the frmaer is not from Steele's past, but
from one of Laura's (a case she solved before the man known as RS arrived).

TWO BROKE GIRLS:
"And the Stickup". An incoherant plot involving Caroline pissing hsrself
when someone attempts to rob the diner and them later sneaking into a movie
theatre without paying, where they see Hong. What was the point of this ep?

What did you watch?

SPECIAL PROGRAMMING NOTE: for anyone that hasn't yet seen it, DR.
HORRIBLE'S SING ALONG BLOG is airing on CW tonight at 9pm Eastern.

HOW I MET YOUR MOTHER: more of the season of breakups. This time, we get
some insight on to why Ted and Robin might break up with their respective
mates. Meanwhile, Lilly and Marshall search for a nanny and find the
perfect one that is all thumbs. The only really good part of the episode
was the end with Barney and his squeeze in bed.

ALPHAS: The team closes in on Stanton Parish. Nina is revisited by a now
angry Senator. Dr. Rosen is not playing nice. Gary's mom falls ill.
Basically, an episode that skimmed lots of plotlines and has this show
headed full throttle towards the finale...which will mark the return of both
Summer Glau and Sean Astin.

THE MOB DOCTOR: These mob guys are really not very nice. Grace juggles
sick friends, real hospital work, and a pregnant mom selling her Alderman
tryst baby to the mob. I didn't much like the pregnant mom stuff or the
twist for her female coworker's first heart surgery assist. I do love
Michael Rappaport as one of the evil mob bosses...and the other evil mob
boss is great as well. Grace is going to end up losing her medical license
and going to jail for a very long time as she continues to break the law,
risk people's lives, and generally mess up. Still no idea why her female
hospital friend is helping her commit all these crimes...and no idea why
more people are not giving this quality show a chance.

REVOLUTION: blonde haired brother and the militia party are attacked by
mother nature. Nearby, our heroes have clear skies, but are attacked by a
pack of not so wild dogs. Why would dogs chase after people when they have
a meal already at hand? Why would anyone think that 'RUN' is the best way
to handle a confrontation with a pack of dogs? We got a nice backstory for
doctor step-mom. She must be more capable than she looks since she survived
on her own, wandering the country from coast to coast for years, before
settling in Chicago's suburbs. Too bad the show gave her a piss poor
plotline to close the episode. Meanwhile, we got some more lipservice
answers to the lack 'technology' as all boats have been used up in the wars.
Next week, however, we will get an iron horse themed episode to quench our
thirst for modernization.

NFL: The last part of the Jets game in which it became all the more clear
that the presence of Tim Tebow is a cancer on the team that keeps them from
having anything close to a coherent offensive strategy.

I'm expecting low broadcast TV ratings due to the addition of baseball
playoffs to the Monday night mix of TV offerings. Life is good, though, as
the Yankees lost.

I completely ignored Revolution.

I had Castle on, but it utterly failed to grip me.

Had had DWTS on for an hour before that, as background noise.

Not much:

The Mentalist (recorded) - Jane is accidentally poisoned with
'belladonna tea', and hallucinates his dead daughter as a wisecracking
teen (played by an apparently unknown actress I've never seen before -
and she's not listed in the IMDb yet, either... :/ ). This episode was
OK, in that it dealt with Jane's mess of a life, his and Lisbon's buried
feelings for each other, and only tangentially dealt with Red John.

Switched at Birth - The scum "street artist" who's Bay's "friend"
successfully cons Bay into bailing the "street artist" and a "friend"
out of jail (have I mentioned how much I am hating Bay this
season?!...). Daphne's dalliance with 'NuKnight Rider' gets her friend
in the kitchen fired (who then makes a scene in the kitchen, with
everybody looking on, about her dalliance with 'NuKnight Rider'). Regina
gets righteously dumped. And Toby discovers Christian Girl has
"layers"!!
And I'm left wondering why I'm still watching this... (oh, yeah, I
remember - because the alternatives are "Partners", DWTS and "90210"!
UGH!!).

Gossip Girl - Season premiere. This was actually amusing in spots, as
Georgina's back and she's out to (righteously) humiliate Serena (who's
fully hatable by this point, anyway!), and Ivy is out to seduce Rufus
(most likely to take (righteous) revenge on Lily, who by this point
fully has it coming). Meanwhile, everybody hates Dan, but as he's
conspiring with Georgina to take the rest of them down, I'm all for him.
Oh and something is going on with Bart and Chuck Bass, but I don't give
a hoot!
I'm guessing Serena is soon enough going to regret rejecting Blair
(again!) - I hope there's negative fallout for Serena slapping away
Blair's apology like that.
I didn't realize that this last season of GG was a "short" season of
just 13 episodes - they should be wrapping this series up in January or
February.

I also had H-5-ZERO on in the background, but was not paying attention
to it, aside from seeing that Cynthia Watros and Julie McNiven
guest-starred.

Recorded for later: Revolution, Alphas, Two Broke Girls... and maybe
something else that I'm forgetting right now!

--
"Surf-crazed aliens... Of course." - Amber, "Alien Surf Girls",
Episode #1.1, "Wipeout".
Wait a minute... "Of course"?! "*Of course*"?!! Did I miss a step here??!!

I kept waiting for the reveal that Dr. Rosen was replaced or under mind
control but I guess not.

Gary's mom falls ill.

I *want* to give it a chance. But there's just too much competition.
I've been recording this show, but it's been relegated to my secondary
DVR and shows on the secondary DVR don't get watched as often. I
haven't watched an episode since the pilot and now I"m not sure if I
care to catch up. Although now perhaps I'll put more effort into it.
Last weekend was brutal on my schedule but this weekend I may have time
to catch up on shows like this.

This is how good or OK shows with too much competition can go unwatched
while bad or mediocre shows with little or no competition get watched
week after week.

Yeah, all the boats everywhere. And no one anywhere is making new ones.
I guess it's not possible to build a 15th century level technology
boat (or anything else) without electricity...Especially when all of
their resources are going towards looking fresh and clean each day and
putting "M" stamps on canned goods.

Hopefully no other country puts resources into building war ships...What
happens if Britain builds a few dozen 19th century war ships and decides
to reclaim the colonies. Perhaps that's why there's *no* trade from
*anywhere* else. Britain or some other country is systematically
building an empire so they are all too busy warring with each other to
sale to America.

So after 15 years, they're still rationing food? Exactly what kind of
economy do they have anyway?

> Next week, however, we will get an iron horse themed episode to quench our

I watched:

The Voice - Some good performances for the battle rounds.

The Mentalist - "Devil's Cherry" Jane meets his dead daughter who helps
him solve the latest crime. I hate to use this term, but this show has
now officially jumped the sharked while riding a nuked fridge with this
episode.

Titanic: Blood & Steel - I gave this about 10 or 15 minutes. It wasn't
particularly bad but I decided I didn't want to devote 10 hours of my
life to watching it. If my DVR wasn't in the 60% range, I might have
recorded the series and watched it later.

Switched at Birth - "We Are the Kraken of Our Own Sinking Ships" If that
line was spoken during the episode, I must have missed it. The last
couple of episodes haven't been very good. This was a slight uptick
from the last two but still not that good. Too much focus on Bay and
her bad influence friend. That whole subplot wasn't believable. The
other storylines were OK.
(mild spoiler)
So Bay bails out Octopus girl and some other random guy without knowing
she was bailing him out. First, I was shocked to see that they let
minors walk in off the street and pay the bail for a non relative in
cash. Second, they let a minor who is incarcerated be bailed out by
another minor who again isn't a relative. WOW! Not that being a
relative is a requirement for bail but still, they let any random child
walk in off the street and bail out another child...Really? Were
Octopus' girls parents (or guardian) even notified of her arrest? And
third, how did she bail out someone without *knowing* she bailed him
out? When she showed up, didn't they ask, who she came to bail out?
Didn't she have to write that person's name down?

I've given The Mob Doctor its chance and what it boils down to is "I don't particularly care whether this character succeeds or fails". This led to a lack of involvement in the story on my part, and I drifted away.

Why would you want an annoying, jangly, brassy, shrieking "reality" show on
as background noise? Even an action movie jam-packed with dramatic music,
explosions, and gunfire would be preferable.

Just 10 episodes, wrapping up in December. THE CARRIE DIARIES starts up in
January. All part of CW's plan to spend less time airing reruns.

Better hurry or you won't be able to catch up before the series gets
cancelled.

Sounds like everything airing on broadcast TV on Sunday.

Hahaha. You on drugs?

Mark Sanchez completes under 50% with two very costly interceptions and
you're blaming Tebow?

Gee whiz, his two series and he gets the Jets to the 3-yard line, and so
what do they do? Bring in Sanchez. Three plays, zero yards (two
incomplete passes) and field goal.

His other series, freaking Jason Hill drops a near-certain touchdown pass.

And, may I point out, the Denver Broncos:

Record starting Kyle Orton 1-5
Record starting Tebow 8-5 (including playoffs)
Record starting Peyton Manning 2-3

Keep bashing the guy all you want. It reminds me of how people used to
talk about Rocky Marciano. Too small, too slow. And yet, the only
undefeated heavyweight champion in history.

ALPHAS
I really liked this episode. Lots of good stories and personality
development. The business about Gary and his mother could have been a
total schlockfest, but they did a great job with it. Excellent writing,
directing, acting -- it just shows how much more importance competence is
than money.

Grade: A

I blew off Revolution to read my current book, "Lucifer's Hammer".

The constant shuffling of QBs in and out of the game completely messed up
any offensive rythmn...and it was made even worse by shuffling in someone at
QB that isn't going to pass the ball. That kind of telegraphing is what
kills an offense's forward progress.

Yes, the Broncoes wwre on a role in spite of Tebow's inability at QB.

If they did that, none of your shows would air at all. Gossip
Girl...90210...Nikita...no one wants to watch these shows and none of them
should have been renewed based upon their ratings performance.

What other sort of plotline could she get in this terribly written show?

The new CBA has limited the number of practices both pre season and
during the year ...
Sanchez's practice time was limited enough with Ryan's propensity to
have a variety of trick plays
not needing Tebow's set also being put in to limit real practice
time ...
Personally, I don't think any amount of practice would help the
underexperienced Sanchez ..
He had one year in College and they made him a starter in the NFL -
doing well at first with a strong defense ...
and a lot of talent surrounding him ... but he learned nothing and
last year this lack of versatility was
blamed on Shotty Jr. who IMO was doing the best with a limited
hand ...
This year as talent around him lessens even more ... his blemishes are
more apparent ...
Tebow at least has shown he's a winner ... not the prototypical NFL QB
that all head coaches crave ...
but serviceable in a different mindset ... as Fox showed last year ...
but having him on the Jets definitely hurts the rest of the team
psyche ...
Woody Johnson gets the headlines ... and Jets fans get crapped on ...

Exactly what I thought. That scene made me want to throw something at
the TV. Maybe clod can come up with a new retarded explanation about how
only natural objects can still float after the blackout. All artificial
objects immediately sink. Or the Monrovians are not only confiscating
all the guns (and the computers-- as Hunter wanked to explain why people
are using Doc Brown-style jury-rigged machines instead of one of the
millions lying around for the taking), but the militia is also out there
confiscating all the wood in America so no one can build a ship. Or
something.

If my TV is going to survive the season, I may have to jettison shows
that are this abjectly stupid.

And Kamekona is back to selling shrimp out of a truck. I thought he gave

They didn't renew it, they just extended the order to a full season.
Meanwhile, the show could still lose 1/3rd of its viewers and be among the
top shows on NBC, so a season #2 is very likely.

The problem in years prior seemed to be that the Jets really limited
Sanchez's passing opportunities. You can't develop a QB if they are just
handing the ball off most of the time and only getting to pass when the
situation is grave. Adding Tebow only compounds that problem because now
Sanchez isn't even in the game on first down when the option to pass or run
is more likely to keep the defense 'honest'.

>Tebow at least has shown he's a winner ... not the prototypical NFL QB

There have been NFL QBs is the past that couldn't really throw the ball and
so had offenses that acted like college offenses (running back runs or QB
runs). It can win some games, but it will not win championships.

This show's getting worse. Another episode that had a kind of "random-ness"
to it, almost like it was cobbled together from scripts they had lying
around. I get what the writers were trying to say - despite their fondness
for each other, Max and Caroline are narcissists who don't mind giving each
other up if the cause is right, a hollow sentiment that came out of nowhere.
The whole "sneaking into a movie theater" sub-plot was a piss-poor (pun
intended) way to make the point. The cold open slap fight was not funny,
other than to play into male fantasies. Adults wetting themselves under
stress- this is funny how, exactly? And who were those folks Han appeared to
be with?

The only redeeming thing for me is that, out of the mustard and orange
uniform, Kat Dennings is one of the most beautiful women I've ever seen. But
even that's not gonna keep me tuning in for this crap too much longer. I
really wanted 2BG to turn into "must see" TV for me, but it doesn't look
like that's gonna happen.

Last week we learned that pretty much everyone there is stealing from Han, and
this week we learn that its okay to sneak into a movie theater without
paying, and then sit around talking loudly, while occasionally yelling things
at the screen.

I felt sorry for the other people in the theater, who paid good money to watch
a movie, and then get treated to the rants and opinions of an asshole in the
audience who thinks they are more entertaianing than the movie.

Also, the Amazon woman from Poland is too much of a characature, and I cringe
everytime she shows up with her questionable fashions and fake accent.

In recent post you took me to task for saying that "Homeland" is one
of the most realistic spy shows on TV because I am not an intelligence
officer. Well, are you a damn shipwright?

Do you really think it is so damn simple to build a proper ocean going
sailing ship? I am not talking about a boat that could sail on
Horseshoe Lake in Florida. Do you think it is a matter of slapping a
few planks of wood together from the remains of Home Depot and putting
up a pole for a mast with bed sheets and it will survive the damn
North Atlantic? Get a crew to properly man it and a Captain that can
read sextants and star maps because the GPS don't work, to know the
ocean currents? That it is likelyt that many of competent sea captains
who know how to handle a sailing vessels died during the chaos?

Besides as some people can't figure out things like when Maggie was
taking to that fisherman it was just a few years-call it five-after
everything went to Shit and maybe it could be different now, but not
then?

The action is soon going to shift to Philadelphia which is a port city
that is under the control of the Monrovians. Now that the Monrovians
have taken over and consolidated power-enough apparent to get at least
to refurbish at least a few miles of railroad track and have at least
one steam engine maybe they could be getting around to building ocean
going vessels. Its going to take time to recover and in many cases
relearn old technology because we lost a lot of those skills because
they became obsolete. They aren't going to magically reappear.

How is that for wanking? Better than just mindless snarking.

Nope, but I know that people as far back as days of Christ could build
ocean-going vessels. The idea that no one in modern America (or anyone

deeply moronic.

The Hawaiians did exactly that and crossed thousands of miles in the
Pacific in bamboo rafts.

The Atlantic is not the Med. And in the times you're talking about
they didn't leave sight of shore. They had no way to calculate
longitude.

I've been in the North Atlantic in winter. Have you?

The idea that no one in modern America (or anyone

You need to do some research about the tools, timber, and techniques
required to build ocean-going sailing ships. It's not something you
get right on a first try. And you need a crew.

Exactly. Knowing someone else did it is nice. To actually build the
infrastructure to begin to lay a keep is the work of many years by
skilled engineers and hundreds of workers who are fed and safe.

Old growth timber helps a lot too. It's rather scarce on the East
Coast.

But there is a more fundamental question. If they could, by supreme
effort, come up with a way to travel to England, why do they need to?

Yesterday, I later watched:

GCB: Revelation
The final episode & I was unimpressed.

ONCE UPON A TIME: We Are Both
I was not bored unlike some other poster.
I think the writers are pretty clever, but I am not sure
whether they are doing the right thing softening the
character of the Evil Queen.

DEXTER: Sunshine and Frosty Swirl
I wish Dexter's sister had not found out about him.
What's going on now between the two of them just does not
seem quite right to me. She should have arrested him on
the spot.
Thank goodness Yvonne Strahov-very hot-ski is in the next
episode. I hope the writers have done her proud. Fingers
crossed I'm not disappointed.

Today, Wed Oct 10, I have so far watched:

NCIS: Recovery
I like Steve Valentine, but did the writers of NCIS &
HAVEN get together re having a psychologist in each show?
And for anim's benefit, no *you know who*.

NCIS:LA: Recruit
I thought there was some silly dialogue in this one,
otherwise the usual sort of thing.

------
Don't knock 15th century tech if you are taking about building Ocean
going vessels. It was very sophisticated. It is a lot more than
hammering a few planks together. Hardly anyone has the skills to build
a new Ocean worth vessel using 15th century tech. Sure some are
constructed for movies and museums but it is highly specialized work
that has largely died out. You can't just pull a bunch of random
people together to do it. And that is leaving out those who have to
sail it and have enough sea knowledge to use a sextant or even an
astrolabe. It is not like getting a steam engine running again.

Also when Maggie talked to the fisherman that was I would guess
between five and 10 years ago in the time line. Now someone somewhere
probably does have a Ocean worthy sailing craft. Maybe after they get
to Philadelphia maybe the Monrovians have scrapped together some Ocean
going vessels.

I'm not sure that most of the population agrees with the idea that the
Monroe Militia is a bad thing. They keep order which allows people to live
in peace , run businesses, etc... Sure, people complain about the high
taxes and about the biased nature of law enforcement, but that is true of
today's USA as well....always has been and always will be complaints.

It seems to me everyone cowers at the mere mention of Monroe and are

She her friend but it is conceivable that she is under the control of
the mob too if "Persons of Interest" plot is a guide (during the first
season of PoI two NYPD detectives, one corrupt and one a straight
arrow, were working for the same rogue former CIA spy and his handler

At least most of the Ocean going vessels. I am sure there are plenty

I would think getting a steam locomotive would be a lot easier to get
up an running than building a ocean going sailing vessel and crewing
it and getting a captain that know how to navigate using an old
fashioned sextant or at least an astrolabe.

You know, it brings up an interesting question. Of course, on a brainless
US t.v. show, a dictatorial military government is going to be the Evil
Empire.

But I'm really starting to doubt if democracy is sustainable. It takes a
government like China's to generate the political willpower to limit
population growth.

Monroe's Militia is clearly enough inhumane to garner our disapproval. But
you'd want a strong central government. That's how social progress is
made. Someone consolidates power in a central government, and then slowly
it evolves.

Rome was horrible and cruel, but the Pax Romana was far superior to
anything for the next 1000 years. Civilization would have been wiped off
the "earth" (Europe and the middle East) except for the Church.

I seem to recall a scene where some woman in Chicago was berating Charlie
for how much better life is with the militia than without it because at
least they can keep their shops open and safe.

In the show, we are not seeing militia armed with guns on every street
corner. What we are doing, is *only* following the lives of characters that
are fighting against the government, so an anti-establishment point of view
is to be expected.

ALPHAS (SYFY, 7 PM) / If Memory Serves
[Hicks and Kat transport a valuable Parish asset; Roland holds the
strategic intel they need to stop Parish.]

Rudy Samwise is an alpha with memory skills, but I'm guessing that he
can't remember the big game in South Bend. Kat is back from her Quantico
training, but I'm still not clear on why they bothered to send her, as
she's gonna forget everything that she learned in short order. We get
some quality Bill and Gary time, and I just love those two guys
together. We also get some time between Kat and Hicks, but there's a lot
less quality there. At first. Hicks is still mourning the death of his
crack whore, and all that. And he's so distraught that he forgets the
rule about making sure that an alpha is really dead, versus just mostly
dead. Fortunately, he survives the mistake, although I'm not sure how he
survived in that trunk when that huge dump truck was driven into the
back of it. Not even a bruise. Go figure. That's gotta be up there with
Indy Jones and his refrigerator trick. Back at the office, Nina is right
and Rosen is being a dick who, by the end of the episode, is in full
Macchiavelli mode. As for Kat, I'm wondering if the actress in the
television ads is actually her mother after all....

REVOLUTION (NBC, 9 PM) / The Plague Dogs

I was surprised that I didn't three-and-out this one after all, but I
only made it through half of this fourth one before deleting it and the

entertaining and well into insulting and pissing-me-off territory. And

Not true btw. Most of the ships were coast huggers like a trimarine,
the famous ships that were powered by a square sail and oars which
would never be able to make it across the Atlantic even if it thrived
on the relatively sheltered waters of the Mediterranean Sea.

You think a bamboo raft can survive the month at least voyage to
Europe? The Pacific is generally a calmer ocean than the Atlantic,
hence its name. The Atlantic, especially the north Atlantic is much
stormier. The Polynesians built ships that were more than just bamboo
rafts, but they couldn't have survived the rougher Atlantic, not in
their configuration.

Also the ancient Polynesians crossed in climates comparable to that of
Tahiti and Hawaii. And they Island hopped; they didn't cross in one
go.

------
Wow, you think you can build a sea worthily transatlantic sailing ship
by just reading a book? It doesn't take years of practice and trial
and error and finding the appropriate materials and laborers with the
right skills to build a ship like that.

Just trying to survive the chaos you think you can find the time and
enough people to build a ship seaworthy enough to cross the Atlantic?
You need a stable social structure to do all of that. All the people
who have the skills which were comparatively rare in the first place
today were out scattered trying to take care of themselves and their
own.

Now after X number of years that they have gained control. The
Monrovians probably have provided that with their government. We know
there is trade taxes and they got at least one steam powered railroad
line going so now maybe they are starting to build ocean capable
ships. Bt that wouldn't not have been the case during the worse of the
collapse or just after; not at the time Maggie asked the fisherman in
Buffalo, New York if there were any ships going to England. Now maybe
but not then-and that would make her death more tragic if they have
done it in Philidelphia.

The nearest land to Hawaii is Johnston Atoll, and that's 850 miles away.
The nearest land to *that* is either Midway (930 miles) or Kiribati
(1150 miles). Those aren't exactly the inconsequential 'hops' you make
them out to be. A hop would be Oahu to Kauai.

Ask Peachy if she's ever noticed a big pea pod next to her bed at any
time in the recent past.

No, no, no. It was a typo and should have read "Altar Eggo." Which is
the waffle that all other waffles pray to and ask to intercede on their
behalf. Which all sounds kinda syrupy to me, but then again I'm more of
a pancake guy.

Waffles are much better. They have those little reservoirs that hold in
the syrup. Pancakes are flat and smooth and it all just runs off onto
the plate.

So you can sop up the syrup with the pieces of pancake that got missed.

I like waffles just fine, but I kinda like pancakes better. Besides, you
can cut the pancakes *before* you add the syrup so that the syrupy
goodness gets absorbed instead of running off and puddling on the plate.
For me, though, whether it's waffles or pancakes, the key is the 15
seconds in the microwave at the very end to warm up the syrup. Because
room-temperature syrup just doesn't work for me.

Maybe they were all destroyed by Frankenstorm?
The HMS Bounty, of Mutiny fame, was lost to the storm:

And this is the Brando Bounty? If she was seaworthy why did they build
a new one for Gibson?

Trying to get from Connecticut to Florida. They intended to sail around the
storm, but Frankenstorm was just too big...and two people disappeared from
the lifeboats (or something) and are missing. oliver Queen should be
questioned further on this.

> And this is the Brando Bounty? If she was seaworthy

A nice 'if' to ask today...From Wiki:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bounty_(1960_ship)

~Bounty's owners have tried, unsuccessfully, to sell the vessel since
2010.
~In September and October, 2012, Bounty was in drydock in Boothbay Harbor
~for maintenance. She was launched from the Boothbay Harbor Shipyard on
22 October 2012.

> why did they build a new one for Gibson?

Gibson wanted one built out of metal? ...or maybe just one built closer to
actual size?

Who knows?

This replica Bounty was apparently made using the original plans for the
original Bounty, except they scaled it up by a percentage to make room for
the cameras.

The ship was here last year? as part of a "Tall ships festival" which
ended up being ships that had been to some much larger festival down the
river. But the organizers told everyone it was the ship in the Pirates of
the Caribean (I don't know which one), ignoring the fact that it was named
after a fmaous historical ship. The local festival seems to think they
need to play up the pirate angle, last year and this they had pirates
wondering around the site, as if sailing ships didn't exist except for
pirates. Meanwhile, last year they had a privateer, state sanctioned
piracy, but didn't play up that angle.

I can't remember what the Bounty was sailing as when it came here. A lot
of the tall ships we see are used for tourism and/or training, the ship
visiting other cities hoping to lure tourists. The ships often are open
to the public, but then reality sets in, you can't go much below decks
since real people are living in them, when that would be some of the
appeal, to see what it's really like below decks.

The Bounty certainly isn't still under contract or ownership to the movie
company, so it likely has some other agenda under new owners, and that
might have impacted on availability to a new movie. Or maybe they just
didn't want to "help the competition".

It was certainly in sailable shape last year when it was here. As to why
it was out in a storm, maybe they thought there was time to move to
another port. They were on the coast, relatively sheltered (except for
"frankenstorms"), so they may have felt they could pull in as needed.
It's a different situation going across the Atlantic or Pacific, though in
reality, I'm not sure how much of that happens. The tall ships don't
generally travel except up and down the continent.
