I get it. They can't kill the only plot piece they have on the island,
otherwise it deteriorate into a soap opera. But the commander does kind of
come off as a Jimmy Carter type...Is he going to cry again sometime soon?

Why Carter? Did the Captain order his best trained men to go in and rescue
the hostages only to have those men fail because they were incapable of
doing the job they claimed that they could do?

No. More likely, we are going to end up with a plotline where the sub has
to put more men on the island (a surge of men) so as to bring the local
population under control...I'm guessing that production costs have kept us
from visually seeing that there are actually hundreds of mafia members on
this island to deal with because otherwise it makes no sense to wait rather
than just wiping them off the face of the island right now.

I haven't watched this week's episode yet but just over the first couple
of episodes, I didn't really think this storyline was going to be even
remotely believable. This thug (and his gang) can't be all that large
and their weapons can't be all that great either. Yet, a navy submarine
shows up and the first thing this guy does is kidnap two of the sailors?
Seriously? He's going to go up against a fully armed navy submarine
and it's crew?

And the Captain didn't lie about serving on a nuclear submarine. :)

Yeah, that's a problem. There's only a handful of mafia guys but the
Captain thinks everybody on the island is with them. How big IS this
island that he's bringing in suitcases of drugs, anyway? I'm waiting
for Dichen's brother and/or father to be in on the drug trade, which is
why they think life is good there.

Still, the single biggest howler of the night, and the one that might
keep me away next week - genius girl keeps the ONLY copy of the super
secret blueprints to the super secret sub cloak on ONE hard drive, in
her safe at home. Guess the guys that built it don't have a set either.

We got to see some of Dichen's ink, although they kept it pretty dark.
How come they took a boat TO the party but had to walk back?

The guy that says it's okay to steal food if he's hungry just needs his
ass capped.

Pretty much every scene that woman is in reeks of stupidity.

yep, especially since the sub should have many months worth of food.
...and again, why ar epeople allowed 'shore leave' in the middle of this
war?

That made be howl. I've got multiple copies of important stuff spread
around, plus I don't tell people where the eff it is. Why is she announcing
she has only one copy and where it's hidden? Plenty of stupid here.

Either her Dad got the location from her boyfriend and took it or had the
boyfriend take it. I'm guessing the latter since he might have the combo.
She must have a lively sexpot, 'cause she isn't all that -- with respect to
getting guys to do her bidding.

Food, but not fresh food. The fresh food goes quickly and they've been out a
couple months I think. But yeah, they need to be on board ready to launch to
backup the threat, but then they wouldn't need the island and its thuggies
for storylines. They should have done an alternative storyline where the sub
sailed with its cloaking device on around the world stopping at various
ports for fresh provisions and interactions with the indigenous.

Or the mystery bald guy in the senator's assistant's office ...

I *think* he's the guy she left in bed in the pilot ep

Well, gee, they've been cooped up pert near 72 hours. I assume some of
them are guard for the brig (wtf is the brig not on the sub, or the
shore, someplace other than town?) or the search party for Vasquez. No
matter what his duty, he wasn't doing it.

Was that a mystery bald guy? I thought that was her dad, too.

You probably don't want to put the brig on the sub if you are going to use
it for *silent* running drug trafficking.

They should have done an alternate storyline where the Illinois sunk
them.

Worse yet, he didn't know that the crappy invisibility tech was going to
blow out half the electrical systems on the sub. Realistically, the sub
crew might be able to make repairs after removing the invisibility tech from
the loop, but no way should they be able to fix the technology and integrate
it into their sub successfully. I have hunch they will, though, just as if
they were some sort of STAR TREK crew.

Ack! No! If they had done that then *all* of the show after that would be
centered on the slutty woman with the hard drive.

Actually, there are measures - easy measures - that could be taken. For
starters, they could reduce the load on the electric plant by doing a
Rig For Reduced Electrical Power on everything but the device when they
need to turn it on.

They may not even have one. Old subs didn't, IIRC, but this one is all
roomy. Somebody might know for sure.

BTW, where did the two Russian prisoners go?

> Gotta be a room you can lock him in someplace.

Yep. If they can make a dog kennel style prison on the island, they ought
to be able to find some lockable quarters on the sub if needed...and they
can add chain link fence there as well. Heck, they can just use the bunk
area where the 9+ dead sub guys used to sleep.

Those are not lockable. Berthing on an Ohio-class is in the Missile
Compartment on the third level. Each 9-man berthing room has a blackout
curtain for a door. Also you can get out by crawling out through the
outboard spaces.

I used to take a lower bunk against the hull as you could remove the
underbunk pan and gain more space to store stuff as well as storing
stuff between hull frames in the outboard.

I guess you would chase them into the jungle where they know the
terrain and has the sympathy of the Islanders and Julian's men would
pick you off one by one and set off IEDs all over the place. That is
their house so to speak.

Besides you can't send all the remaining 134 or so men and women out
since you have to have people left to sail the sub And some of your
men are mutinous anyway so it is not as if they could go in with over
whelming force even if there are only say 30 thugs on the Island.

As Chaplin said he will pick the time and the place so he won't have
to fight the US Navy and the thugs and some of his own men.
