This latest version is written by Garth Ennis and is pretty good so far.
Definitely not your grandfather's Shadow, and all that. Among other
things, he takes Anim's frequent "Just shoot them!" advice to heart in a
big way right out of the gate, and he's also curling Margo's toes on a
regular basis, as well.

Only five issues (and an annual) into things so far, so it would be one
of the easier ones to catch up on from the beginning. By comparison,
Fables is up to issue #121, along with some extras and spin-offs and at
least one graphic novel.
