SyFy Channel original movies become so bad, it's almost hilarious. Fake
CGI, campy plots, the themed weekends, bad acting, and bringing back old
TV actors from the 80s always makes for a real dumpsterpiece. How anyone
can these seriously is beyond me.

1. Sharktopus (2010 TV Movie)

3.5/10 X A half-shark, half-octopus creature created for the military,
creates a whole lot of terror in Mexico while a scientist who helped
created it tries to capture/kill it. (89 mins.)
Director: Declan O'Brien
Stars: Eric Roberts, Kerem Bursin, Sara Malakul Lane, Héctor Jiménez
“ I think this internet meme speaks for itself. Were the writers high on
crack when they came up with this? Half-shark, half-octopus, 100% bad
CGI effects. And it's versatile too! It can use its tentacles to stab
beautiful girls through their bellybuttons, chomp on bungee jumpers,
grab other fake-CGI sharks with its tentacles at eat them, too bad the
government doesn't have one of these. Oh wait, I think that's the
storyline. I was laughing too hard at the creature itself to pay
attention. Boy, Eric Roberts must have really needed the $$. ” -
CinemaddictFilms

2. Tyrannosaurus Azteca (2007)

3.2/10 X Director: Brian Trenchard-Smith
Stars: Marc Antonio, Allen Gumapac, Dichen Lachman, Shawn Lathrop
“ Not only does SyFy make monster movies, but they do historical dramas
as well. Did you know that when Cortes conquered Mexico, his men had to
fight a giant animated T-Rex? Neither did I actually, but the SyFy must
be right. You can obviously see where this movie is going...straight
downhill. ” - CinemaddictFilms

3. Mega Shark vs Giant Octopus (2009 Video)

2.8/10 X The California coast is terrorized by two enormous prehistoric
sea creatures as they battle each other for supremacy of the sea. (85
mins.)
Director: Ace Hannah
Stars: Lorenzo Lamas, Deborah Gibson, Vic Chao, Jonathan Nation
“ Double monsters AND double whammy. Not only was this masterpiece of
cinema a SyFy movie, but it was produced by The Asylum. So you know had
bad this is got to be. Big sharks and octopi made by computer graphics
from the original TRON era. There is a really ridiculously bad scene
where Megashark jumps out the water and snatches a Boeing plane out from
mid-air. Beat that, Peter Benchley. And when your lead actress in a
washed-up teenybopper pop star like Debbie Gibson, it makes me wonder
one thing: Will Justin Bieber be acting for these movie when nobody
cares about his music anymore? ” - CinemaddictFilms

4. Mega Shark vs Crocosaurus (2010 Video)

2.8/10 X (88 mins.)
Director: Christopher Douglas-Olen Ray
Stars: Gary Stretch, Jaleel White, Sarah Lieving, Robert Picardo
“ Just when you thought MEGA SHARK VS. GIANT OCTOPUS couldn't be any
cheesier...yep, it's round two. Obviously we can see from the title who
won the last battle, and we know a Crocosaurus randomly comes along.
Only this time, the Mega Shark's foe has a cooler name than just "Giant
Octopus." Jaleel White, better known as Steve Urkle from "Family
Matters" plays a naval officer. At least it's nice to know that he still
has a career. ” - CinemaddictFilms

5. Children of the Corn (2009 TV Movie)

4.1/10 X (92 mins.)
Director: Donald P. Borchers
Stars: David Anders, Kandyse McClure, Daniel Newman, Preston Bailey
“ Slasher movie remakes are bad enough, but a SyFy remake is worse. Eli
Roth couldn't make this one any worse. ” - CinemaddictFilms

6. Snakehead Terror (2004)

3.7/10 X A small town, desperate to recover from hard economic times,
is under threat when voracious Snakehead...
Director: Paul Ziller
Stars: Bruce Boxleitner, Carol Alt, Chelan Simmons, Juliana Wimbles
“ I will be completely honest. I grew up in Maryland, not too far away
from Lake Crofton, where the actual snakehead fish incident took place.
And I really wanted to see how a made-for-cable TV movie would handle
it. This movie is a complete joke and not based on any facts, plus I've
lived in this state my whole life, the location looks nothing like it.
Bruce Boxleitner needs to stop acting, period. ” - CinemaddictFilms

7. Dinocroc vs. Supergator (2010 TV Movie)

3.2/10 X Director: Rob Robertson, Rob Robertson
Stars: David Carradine, James C. Burns, John Callahan, Lisa Clapperton
“ Poor David Carradine. Such an accomplished badass actor, and this had
to be his last movie. At least people will always remember him from KILL
BILL. ” - CinemaddictFilms

8. Ice Spiders (2007 TV Movie)

3.3/10 X (90 mins.)
Director: Tibor Takács
Stars: Patrick Muldoon, Vanessa Williams, Thomas Calabro, David Millbern
“ These are the fakest looking spiders imaginable. Oddly enough, instead
of hot bikini girls on the beach, SyFy has these creatures eating skiers
in the Rockies. Oh crap, did I just give them a new idea? ” -
CinemaddictFilms

9. Kraken: Tentacles of the Deep (2006 TV Movie)

3.9/10 X Thirty years ago, Ray Reiter witnessed the brutal death of his
parents at sea by a strange, octopus-like creature... (88 mins.)
Director: Tibor Takacs
Stars: Charlie O'Connell, Victoria Pratt, Kristi Angus, Cory Monteith
“ Starring Jerry O'Connell!! Not really, just his lookalike brother.
It's kind of supposed to be about a giant squid killing people, then
somehow the mob gets involved, I don't understand. Therefore, the actual
Kraken itself not only become less involved with movie but he gets so
little screen time. It's ironic because this SyFy monster is not nearly
as campy as some others. The only redeeming factor is that the actress
who plays the female scientist lead is gorgeous. ” - CinemaddictFilms

10. Dinocroc (2004)

2.9/10 X After an African dinosaur ancestor of the crocodile is found,
Dr. Campbell uses its DNA to create prototypes at Paula Kennedy's
Genetic Research Co... (90 mins.)
Director: Kevin O'Neill
Stars: Costas Mandylor, Charles Napier, Bruce Weitz, Matthew Borlenghi
“ What makes this movie so special? Well, it's legendary B-movie
producer/director Roger Corman's return to film. And he has returned
with a bang! A movie so bad, even his films that were lampooned on MST3K
don't hold a candle to DINOCROC. And I have a lot of respect for Mr.
Corman for what he did contribute to film. Jack Nicholson, Dennis
Hopper, Martin Scorsese, Francis Ford Coppola, Peter Bogdanovich,
Sylvester Stallone, and Jonathon Demme would never have careers without
him. But this holographic monster is the best part of the whole thing. ”

This list is a lot closer to being correct, though I think "Snakehead
Terror" is actually kind of fun.

Wow, two of the ten best are also in the ten worst. I guess there's only
18 of them, then? (And even the ten best are worse than the ten worst
films that aren't either SyFy Originals or Manos: The Hands of Fate.)

Aztec Rex is hysterical, and gave us Dichen Lachman.

And, seriously, no Heatwave? Unarguably, incontestably, the worst siffy
movie ever made?

Well, Syfy could always remake "Blood Beach" which wasn't half bad,
late and night and half wasted.

I can't tell much difference between the "best 10" and the "worst 10". It
gets a lot less attention from me now that they have Troma movies on "On
Demand".

Since the Tremors films came out and are pretty well known, any Blood
Beach film would seem pretty derivative...

Well, the major difference between then and now is that we actually
had to pay good money to see crap like "Blood Beach."

And we LIKED IT!!!!!

Now all it takes is basic cable and the SyFy Network each Saturday of

no one can see us.

ALL made-for-SYFY movies suck! Poor acting, copied storylines and the
camera work is the WORST! You can tell a SYFY movie 2 min. into the
show by the camera work, just awful!

Ubi's list was made a year and a half ago. Since then, a new contender for
worst ever has come in to take the crown:

CACTIBEAR II: Half cactus, half bear, this nemesis is out to eat aging
women wandering the California foothills. Part of what ultimately made the
film so bad was all the re-shoots that had to be done after they switched
lead actresses midway through the production.

And the lead actress' bankruptcy is just the icing on the cake.

There is another rumor that such a production is already underway in
Canada, possibly with funding from Hollywood.

A surprising number are available on DVD. (Don't ask, many good Bothans

Amazon has in varying formats:
Sharktopus
Mega Shark vs Giant Octopus (on blu-ray, god help us)
Mega Shark vs Crocosaurus (on a double feature with 30,000 Leagues Under
the Sea)
Children of the Corn
Snakehead Terror
Dinocroc, as well as Dinocroc vs Supergator, on Blu, and, I swear, the
"Suite from the Original Motion Picture Soundtrack" - all six minutes

Ice Spiders
Kraken

And yet, Aztec Rex was pulled.

True. I can't remember if the miscarriage (assuming she isn't still
pregnant) was the result of the alcohol or the car accident...or stress over
being tossed in jail.

That is the one we are referencing, yes, along with various THE L.A. COMPLEX

What amazes me is that so many of those turkeys have a well-known
star. Syfy must be paying big bucks to the lead actor.

That's not the joke.

The joke is that if you've heard of that terrible, delayed movie, you're

Yep. The only thing that made it clear that the whole thread was a hoax was
the idea that CACTIBEAR II could scratch its way into the Top 10 worst Syfy

Well known but not recently working. IIRC the *entire* budget for an
Asylum Syfy film is $200k. And they churn them out in like 2 weeks.

So did I. They might as well go ahead and make it now. If Bruce
Campbell is in it I'll watch it, but not otherwise.

It's not only actors. I know a guy who's a fine amateur musician and
composer who wrote the score for one of their asteroid-collision

credit, and he's very proud of it. I wouldn't wait for the CD, though.

I will only watch the sequel if Jewel Staite stars in the first half and
then an unexpected plot twist gives her a remarkable makeover.

I'm pretty sure the lawsuit suggested that production was stopped because
half the film's production time was lost due to her not showing up for
filming on day 2. These sort of films are shot on a very tight schedule.

How could somebody pick ONLY TEN? How could anybody NOT PICK Interceptor Force or Interceptor Force 2 or Velocity Trap? I gave 'em 1/10, 1/10 and 2/10 respectively.

The original, Children of the Corn (1984) wasn't bad.

That last sentence is utter BS. Bruce just can't seem to get in anything good, or lasting (CHAOS) these days.
