>My local PBS station had been repeating and repeating and repeating the
>first three Hustle series. I just noticed that later series are on
>HDNet. I can finally see the rest of the series, cool.
I caught up on the Series 5 episodes, so I got to see the brother and
sister introduced. In a classy touch, they were not credited as main
cast in the opening titles of that episode so as not to spoil the plot
for the audience.
I've seen all episodes through Series 7 now. Series 7 ends with
The Delivery. Albie gets a shock: an adult daughter Claire Goose (Mel
from Waking the Dead). His wife left him when she learned she was
pregnant and didn't expect Albie would be much of a family man.
Robert Vaughn gets to show a bit of emotion.
I think my favorite episode was from Series 6, "Conned Out of Luck",
in which Mickey falls for a scam, bad mojo for any grifter. It's absolutely
hysterical when wonderful things keep happening to Eddie whilst Mickey
is miserable. For a change of pace, Robert Glenister attempts to run the
con but really can't do much without Mickey's ideas.
I don't miss Marc Warren even a little bit, but I do miss Jaime Murray.
As others noted, the brother and sister grow on you. The writers were
wise by giving the new characters distinct personalities from the characters
written out.
Interestingly, I don't see how Robert Glenister could have been replaced.
He's The Fixer character, a superior character actor and far more interesting
than Hardison on Leverage. In any con on tv or the movies, The Fixer is
the character creating miracles, and it would have been difficult to
accept another actor in that spot if Glenister ever left. Glenister helped
with the suspension of disbelief.
He's the older brother of Philip Glenister, Gene Hunt on Life On Mars
and Ashes to Ashes.
If Robert Vaughn had left, I don't think he could have been replaced,
but I wonder what they would have done for a roper.
One more series to go. I'll be sad when I've seen them all.
