I can't speak for BBCA, but I can tell you The Hammer, over at Sci-fi
channel passed on the new series.

For anyone who's seen it, is this an all-new retelling of the story, or is
this a continuation of the long-running story?

It's a continuation. They are definitely referring to Eccleston as the
Ninth Doctor, though there really aren't any blatant references to the
past in "Rose." It appears to take place sometime shortly after his
regeneration, as the Doctor makes a comment to himself about his new
look after seeing his reflection in a mirror.

Doctor Who doesn't really have a "long running story".

Yes, I'm bitter because they didn't make the programme I wanted it to
be. Sue me.

No onscreen regeneration (but don't get me started on that - remember the
travesty that was the baker-McCoy switch?), but otherwise it's the doctor
Who we all loved, back before we started hating and then kind of liking
again.

I'm not all that happy with the inside of the tardis though - it's a bit
too reminiscent of that unspeakable TV movie. *

That's confusing: what's the difference between downloading TV shows and
getting up to take a piss during the adverts?

David

unread,
Mar 27, 2005, 1:46:59 PM3/27/05
to

That's not comparable either since the actual act of downloading tv
shows isn't illegal, only sharing it with others is. So that would be
like shoplifting from a store but accidently dropping stuff while
running down the street and being arrested because someone picked it
up.

Anyway even if it's technically against the law I won't feel bad for
doing the same thing I would've done with a vcr or dvr. And there's
strong evidence that the BBC leaked the episode on purpose.

Since it's physically impossible to get Doctor Who in the US, I have a lot
less problem with it. It's not like you're depriving any station of income
by downloading it. *

Actually, I'm sure it will be available on DVD sooner or later, so it's
not like you could never see it legally.

Not the same thing either, if you shoplift from a store someone loose
something. That need not be the case if you download something a tv
show.

But their already looking for a new doctor since Eccleston just quit.He said
he doesn't want to be type
cast which is pretty hard to do since no one knows who he is.

True, and I'll buy it since I've already taken advantage of the content. I
did the same thing with Wonderfalls - and I'm really glad I did. Some of
those torrent files were really crappy, and I gave up after downloading
only two of them anyway. The box set is a great thing. *
