THE REAL HOUSEWIVES OF ORANGE COUNTY:
"A Star is Reborn?". The same ol' crap. Heather tells us she doesn't
judge others by the company they keep, but isn't that exactly what she
did when she first met Lydia? Wow, Lydia sure looked two-faced when she
met Heather and Tamra. How many expressions did Alexis mess up while
talking to Jim? I thought I would never say it, but Jim was the voice of
reason this week. Wow, calling Lydia's mother "crazy" is the
understatement of the year! I wonder what happened after Gretchen
arrived in NYC to see Slade? I thought at first their scene was in NYC.
After Vicki tries to weasel her way out of her agreement with Ryan to
not see Brooks if they moved in with her, she sneaks off fir a dinner
date with the slick and sleazbag. Wow, he knows how to manipulate Vicki!
I had totally forgotten about that stupid "Wines by Wives" business
venture of Tamra and Vicki's, but why do they only now have a local
office, whatever that means? Nice shirt, Eddie. I didn't realize they
let men buy those. Heather was a total bitch in the restaurant.

FAMILY GUY:
While housebound due to Hurricane Flozelle, Brian experiments with
mushrooms. Meanwhile, Meg unloads on everyone but unfortunately, decides
her lot in life is to be the family punching-bag. What a dissapointing
ending!

FAMILY GUY:
Quagmire's sister has an abusive boyfriend. Eventually, Quagmire, Peter,
and Joe decide to do something about it.

FAMILY GUY:
Brian dates a blind girl and soon discovers she hates dogs, which is
just as well because he treated her poorly.

HOW I MET YOUR MOTHER: Barney plays laser tag with the devil while Lilly
and Marshall pack up for their move to Italy. Meanwhile, Robin digs up
central park looking for lost treasure. Ted comes to her emotional aid, but
there is nothing in that box. I'm guessing the Devil took the treasure and
it will show up at the wedding.

DEFIANCE: Madam bar owner and one of her employees have to run from a slow
moving bad guy. As with any good damsel in distress, there is tripping,
falling, and being captured...wackiness ensues. American Indian family at
the mine finds some TERRA NOVA style petroglyphs that indicate magic powers
for anyone that finds the two medallions...and they already have one of
them. We find out the mayor kidnapped her younger sister when they were

most interesting character on the show as she and her husband manipulate
everyone and gain power in local government. Finally, the new sheriff in
town not only doesn't read bad guys their rights, he summarily executes them
on sight...shooting them in the back without even a warning.

REVOLUTION: This week Monroe's evil plan is to kill everyone with Anthrax.
The Georgia Republic, being better people, want the anthrax for themselves
so they can kill everyone with it. Miles summarily executes a prison of
war, kidnaps the anthrax scientist's family so as to use them to force
anthrax doctor to make anthrax, then tells Neville off in a verbal slappy
fight. Meanwhile, over in the Plain States, Mommy is hungry so she, like
any good damsel in distress running from a slow moving bad guy trips and
falls...but not just falls - she breaks her leg with the bone protruding
through the skin. Fortunately, that doesn't slow down her ability to fight
and so she and Google guy are still able to kill three armed men.
Meanwhile, back at the tower the elevator almost works, but the guy who
tests it out ends up painting the walls red.

THE BATES MOTEL: The sheriff isn't nice to Norma and won't help her get on
the city planning commission...wow, I cannot believe Norma thought he would.
Mad that she cannot win vs. the sheriff, she decides to start stalking her
only guest, only to get caught by him as well. Unwilling to admit she was
outwitted, she goes on the offensive by throwing him (her only paying guest
ever) out of the hotel. Meanwhile, Norman learns taxidermy and goes to see a
psychologist, but mommy does all the talking. The older brother fights with
his co-workers, deserts one of them on the side of the road, and brings the
rest of them to the now empty hotel as new, paying guests.

THE DETAILS: a 2011 film starring Toby McGuire and Elisabeth Banks. Oh
what a tangled web we weave when first we practice to deceive. Life in the
suburbs is never as simple as it seems. This was a decent move, though it
stumbled a bit at the end.

Virtually, nothing.

And not because it's a long work day either - but because
cable/broadcast has pretty much cleared out all the shows that I want to

So I only watched:

The Mentalist (recorded) - The Season Finale, "Red John's Rules". As I
speculated in the other thread, I strongly believe that Jane *wanted*
Red John's Homeland Security henchman (Kevin Corrigan) to find his
"evidence board" several episodes back. Therefore, I do not believe that
Jane's supposed "seven final Red John suspects" are in fact the *real*
"final" Red John suspects.
As an aside, I found it interesting that Minelli (Gregory Itzin)
wasn't one of them - I guess that still leaves it open for the show to
"shock" us with a final, series-ending "revelation" that Minelli is
really Red John...
Anyway, good episode for Lisbon-Jane interaction (I'm guessing Robin
Tunney f***ed up her wrist in real life? hence the cast?...). And Jane
actually directly used Van Pelt in one of his cons for the first time in
what seems like forever.

I also saw some of what is apparently the penultimate episode of "90210"
- and, yes, it was every bit as lackluster as you would expect it to be,
and not worthy of synopsizing (except to say that Silver is still the
biggest bitch in the world, and I wish the cancer would just take her
once and for all... :/ ).

Recorded for later: Lots!! - Rules of Engagement, 2 Broke Girls,
Defiance, Warehouse 13, Revolution, and Mad Men(!!).

What I don't remember is when Emmanuelle Chriqui's character was
killed by Red John. The evidence board incident seemed too recent for
that. Anyone recall the timeline?

now they balk at coercing information out of murderers and kidnappers to

Warehouse the 13th the Series.
Bored again. Pete is back to superannoying. Another cameo from Leena;
it turns out she had important work in the Warehouse in addition to
running the B&B (and nobody's addressed the piles of dirty dishes and
laundry or pizza boxes or something that must be piling up). Didn't
care about the case of the week or the mythology. Oh, and suddenly you
can just all go to the council and meet them in their big conference
room instead of clandestine meetings in diners in what may or may not be
other towns.

Still to go: Revolution and Castle. And apparently I missed a Bones
with the return of a horrible disfigured super criminal?

Why are these people living in *tents*?!?! That's worse than the Monroe
Republic. This is ridiculous. And if food is so scarce, why don't they
go somewhere with food? I get that living in the Monroe Republic (or
elsewhere) could be considered worse; but if Monroe wants his empire to
extend from "sea to shining sea" why hasn't he at least conquered the
tent people.

I don't get why test guy would handcuff the woman to the computer that
could potentially allow the woman to lock him in the elevator instead of
bringing her with him so he could keep an eye on her and have access to
her tech skills.

I watched:


Knocked Up - Judd Apatow raunchy romantic comedy staring Seth Rogen as a
slob who impregnates a prissy Katherine Heigl. The movie had a *lot* of
familiar actors who, like Seth Rogen, I probably had no idea who most of
them were when the movie came out. It holds up well.


Silver Linings Playbook (Netflix rental) - I was a little annoyed when I
saw this shipped since I saw in the theater when it first came out and
didn't really want to see it again so soon. However, it held up really
well on second viewing.

Agreed. The show was trying to portray some sort of return to Indian
migration patterns of people being nomads and following the herd, but it was
nonsensical.

Traditionally, power mongers try to conquer areas of value. The Plains
States didn't appear to be of any value.

I agree. I very much expected her to have a 'freefall' code link set up to
reprogram the elevator or something like that. On the plus side, at least
they didn't have her successfully pick the handcuff lock with the plastic
twist tie.

not particularly accurate as far as cause and effect are concerned.

bow and kiss the feet of Vera Farmiga's greatness.
So, it turns out Jim was 100% right about the two girls. May
I point out that even a blind pig roots an acorn ever' once in a
while?
And Jere shows he can play rough. In fact, Norma seems to
live in a very, very hostile world. Also a great scene as older
brother shows the makings of an excellent lower-level stooge.

I can't remember, possibly. But then we started getting the 90s in
midJune so we had a long hot summer.

It varies every year though. About 4-5 years ago when I lived in WY we
had the winter that wouldn't die. Cold snowy and rainy into late May.
Even the buffalo shed their fur later that year.

I thought it was hilarious how they're in the middle of a child abduction
and the clock is ticking. Danno interrogates the suspect, kicks his chair
over, then when the guy screams he didn't do it, what does Danno do? He
says, fuck it and takes off, drives halfway across the island to his
daughter's cheerleading practice and asks her for a hug.

A guy who runs an Internet site that posts government and industrial
secrets is blown up in his car on a NYC street, but before Beckett and
Castle can even get there Homeland security swoops in and grabs all
evidence. Beckett and crew decide they will investigate anyway - and
quickly determine the bomb was not under the hood or anywhere in the
car but dropped in from above - like a missile from a drone! The
clever watcher can probably predict most of the rest of the plot, but
at the end the feds so much like Beckett that they offer her a job
interview, which from the coming attraction means she would be leaving
Castle, apparently the season cliffhanger.

Overall a pretty good episode, much more tightly directed and written
than usual. But I still don't know where the characters or story arc
thinks it's going, I suspect the writers and producers don't either,
you can't have tight writing and directing without a direction, if you
ask me.

hot, so that's something of a relief.

The show doesn't pretend to be fair about that. It's just not the tone
of the show to complain about other contestants. Everybody goes out,
gives it their best shot, and acts gracious if and when they are
eliminated.

Melissa Rycroft, who won the All-Star show, was a Dallas Cowboys
cheerleader for years. That's the closest they've come to a
professional dancer, I think.

the character to be behaving? Oh, well. Back to the story. We hear about

a federal job despite a criminal background, and he did it by simply
changing his name. Nice background check there. And his motivation is
ultimately beyond stupid. "I loved him and I stuck a knife in him," says
the one eco-chick to Claudia, in reference to Ranger Rick's brother in
what was surely supposed to be a script moment of extreme profundity.
And what the heck, for this show ... it probably was. Back at the
warehouse, Artie is acting like an idiot in stereotypical ways
associated with loss, so the quality of the writing is no better in that
part of the story. And we learn that Steve and his calm calmness are a
good (and calm) replacement for Leena's previous ... calm. And Artie
finally listens to Leena's prerecorded I-know-the-risks message and it's
all okay now, as if he didn't already know everything he needed to know
before playing that message. Bottom line: making Pete "funny" is a bad
idea. Making Claudia serious is arguably a worse idea. And making Artie
mope and be a downer isn't entertaining (even though he has the chops to
pull it off to at least some degree).

Grade: D+

[A mysterious stranger causes problems for Norma; Bradley is not happy
when rumors spread at school; Dylan and Remo go on a fateful road trip;
Norman takes up a grisly hobby.]

We learn that our little town is apparently not too little to have its
own newspaper. In this day and age? Huh. Go figure. So who did the due
diligence for Norma when she bought the hotel? Did she not have a lawyer
handling the transaction? Because if there *was* a lawyer, I know whose
feet *I'd* be holding over the fire right about now if I were Norma. On
another front, Norman takes up taxidermy and has Scraps stuffed. So now
it's still an annoying little lap dog, but at least it's much quieter,
so it has that going for it. Emma spreads the news that Bradley rattled
the headboard with Norman. As a result, Bradley gets upset with Norman.
As a result, Norman gets upset with Emma. As a result, Emma apologizes
and hugs Norman and tells him that, of all things, she feels safe with
him. HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA. Ahem. In other "go figure" news, school reps
determine that Norman needs therapy, so ... Norma runs away. Then, in a
session with both Norman and Mother, it takes the therapist about .0001
nanoseconds to determine the problem and voice it, so ... Norma runs
away. Later, Norma follows the wackadude from #9, who in turn catches
her stalking him, so ... Norma runs away. And this one had me LOL'ing.
Honestly, there are times when I think that this show is just a parody.
Or at least they're directing [the Norma actress] to play it as one.
Elsewhere, Dylan is off to pick up some "trimmers" who will process the
pot that's being grown in Twin Pines. Or wherever we are. Along the way,
he gets into a bar fight with his new partner, who just may have an
alcohol problem. Then they bond. Then Dylan deals with an over-aged
guitar-playing hippie in the best way there is to deal with a over-aged
guitar-playing hippie: by ditching him on the side of the road. Works
for me! (And made me think of Bluto and ANIMAL HOUSE for a moment.) Back
on the home front, Norma crosses paths with #9 guy at the hotel again,
so ... Norma runs away. Again. Then a beat-up Dylan brings the vanload
of trimmers to the hotel and Norma is so happy for the business that she
doesn't even ask about Dylan's facial souvenirs from the bar fight.
Gotta love that maternal instinct. But she did offer to take him to
dinner (since Norman was off two-timing her with that Emma slut, and all
that). All in all, I'm still having fun with this show, but it's getting
harder and harder to take it seriously. So it's more ha ha fun than
creepy fun. There are just so many things coming out of left field (I'm
seeing shades of LOST and it's early tendencies to throw all sorts of
things at the wall) and there are too many scenes that are coming across
more as parody than as anything remotely serious or scary to me.

Grade: B-

The one I found interesting was in some guy's front yard. I wonder if
there was an easement, and he got stuck with it, or if they're paying
