First let me say how thrilled I am that this newsgroup is up and rolling!
Thanks, Dilla! Ya done it again! :)
I have been watching Early Edition ever since the premiere episode and
am really glad that the show is doing so well. I am pleased with CBS for
giving this show a chance; it redeems the network ever so slightly in my
eyes for cancelling one of my favorites, "Christy."
Sometimes it's impossible for me to give the show the attention that I
would like due to family responsibilities so I may have missed the
reasoning behind this question. Can anyone tell me why Gary was chosen to
receive the newspaper? I mean, why not Chuck? I'm sure that he could put
those future stock prices to good use! Hee hee! Not to mention the
lottery numbers, racing results, etc . . .

They never really said why as far as I am aware. Gary even tried to avoid it
and it kept coming back (the epsiode with the homeless kid). He was just
chosen.

Well, I was under the impression that the original newspaper guy, the
old guy in the photograph with the cat, who worked at the newspaper,
and who could eerily typeset the headlines before anyone knew the news
(including the "DEWEY DEFEATS TRUMAN" headline) -- that guy -- HE got
the next day's newspapers. OK, so this old guy was going to move into
the exact same apartment as Gary, but DIED before he got to move in,
and Gary moved there instead. So, either the fates were unaware that
the old guy died, and are blithely continuing to deliver the paper to
the old guy's last known address (and it would be sort of weird that a
psychic newspaper would be aware of the old guy's change-of-address but
not his death) or the fates needed a substitute in a hurry, looked
Gary over, and decided he'd do.

Spoiler alert from the first episode.
Note that in the very first episode, Gary moved _out_ of the apartment,
into what appeared to be another part of the country, or at least distant
part of the state (it was a mountain cabin...) and the paper, and cat,
showed up the next morning...

The paper (and the cat) have found Gary at places other than his
apartment, so it's not just a matter of Gary being at the right
address and happening to get the paper by chance. The Publishers know
who he is and where he is.

Anyways I think that the picked te people that had a good heart, like Gary
for instance, soo that's why he gets the paper :-)
