America spends more money per public school student that almost any other
country in the world, yet our public school system is a disgraceful
failure in terms of learning levels and drop out rates. If you want to
see just how bad our public schools are, watch "Waiting For Superman" and
"The Cartels" - both available on Netflix.
If you really want to improve America's public school system you need to
take five (5) steps:
1. Eliminate the Department Of Education. A $90 billion dollar a year
cluster fuck of red tape, idiotic rules and bureaucrats that are literally
tripping over themselves.
2. Eliminate the huge teacher's unions that don't give a shit about our
kids, their education or whether or not they learn anything that will make
them productive in the workplace.
3. Eliminate teacher tenure and make teacher's accountable for their
performance, their results and for their conduct.
4. Implement a comprehensive student voucher program that let's parents
decide which school their children attend. The bad schools close, the
good schools thrive and the parents have more to say about what their
children are taught. In addition, any parent that pays tuition for their
children to attend a Catholic or private school should be exempt from all
public school taxes.
5. Hire some people with real world business experience (not just the
usual collection of career academics) to look at the school system and
identify ways to eliminate fraud, waste, corruption and duplication. And
implement these changes to improve the overall efficiency of the public
school system.
