ELR? Really? Though to be fair I found it only mildly amusing at the best

Yeeks. Really? Santos, being played as a low grade moron, didn't
bother you? It was like some bizarro world with Alan Alda playing the
smart Republican and losing. I had NO idea what they were going for.

They dissed The Shat and he's not in the new movie, which by all
accounts (that aren't studio flacks) is looking to be pretty dire.

The Shat is not the magic ingredient that will make a Star Trek movie
great; just look at Star Trek V, which I *still* say is the *worst* Trek
movie ever made. ST-V is enjoyable only as MST3K fodder, and it's
really too bad for me to even enjoy it that way. :-P

Actually, Galen was wrong. TNT killed 99% of all hope for Crusade in
1999. Then, Warner Brothers and The Sci-Fi Channel came along and
killed the remaining 1% sometime in 2001.

By not doing their homework, writing him out, and then not having the
balls to return his calls and let him hear about it from Nimoy. It's
more how they did, than what they did.

Trek V is awful, and it's still better than Generations, Insurrection,
and WAY better than Nemesis, and probably better than First Contact,
which I tried to watch recently and was WAY worse than I remembered.
You're saying that the entire story goal of the new Trek movie is to
'change the timeline to save Kirk' ?????? If Shatner's not in the new
Trek movie, then storywise, why even *have* a movie? Shatner's Kirk was
killed in Generations. How are they going to prevent Shatner's Kirk
(that age), in a movie about them all as young, pre-TOS officers, and
not show Shaner's Kirk, recycled footage??? (Yes, I know the whole,
real world goal of a movie is to make money. I'm talking about story
goals.)

Trek V makes me *cringe* like few other movies ever have. An example of
one of the others would be Babylon 5 - The Legend of the Rangers - To
Live and Die in Starlight.
I'd rather be waterboarded that watch ELR. I don't know why that show
wasn't called "Everybody Thinks Raymond's an Asshole", anyway.
As a counterpoint to Anim's "No Shat, No Show",
Star Trek V is "Oh Shat, what Shit!"
>They dissed The Shat and he's not in the new movie, which by all

Mr. Nimoy has been highly enthusiastic and sings the praises of this
movie, and this is the same Mr. Nimoy who (properly) refused to
participate in "Generations".
That makes your dire warning somewhat suspect, I'm afraid.

Anim is a Shatner Worshipper. He made up his mind over a year ago that
"Star Trek" was going to suck since Mr. Shatner is not in it
(really... look him up on Google News), and no amount of news and
reports to the contrary are ever going to change that.
The sad thing is that Star Trek is all about tolerance and
open-mindedness, but Anim's is hermetically sealed on the matter.
Brian
yeah, but the Borg are (is?) cool and Alice Krige rocked. The only one of
the series I'd have any interest whatsoever in watching again.
I'd rather watch you being waterboarded than ELR.
Nope. Best to leave while they were still turning out good product.
Always leave 'em wanting more.

The sad thing is attaching the Star Trek name to such incredible cyclonic
crap-sucking garbage. If history is any lesson, chances of STTM sucking
approach 100% whether Shatner is in it or not.

having Kirk dead is the GOAL here.

You're kidding, right? Evil Romulans from the evil future evilly come
back to kill young Kirk. Old Spock comes back to stop them. Wackiness
ensues. Young Kirk's history (completely incompatible with everything
we know) is shown. Nimoy plays old Spock; all new actors play the young
crew, unless you want to count Majel who is still the computer.
Basically they're doing THE SEARCH FOR SPOCK without casting Nimoy. Or
watching WRATH OF KHAN first for reference.

Never watched it.
Yawn. An actor paid to be in a movie saying it's good on the publicity
tour! What a shock!
That's what I thought, which is why I tried to watch it again. Wasn't
good. :(

I have no problem with someone saying they don't like Star Trek or any
other particular show*. But that's different than Anim saying the new

I'd say the chances are are about 70% that it will be poor, given the
history. I think "Star Trek II: The Wrath of Khan", "Star Trek IV: The
Voyage Home", and "Star Trek: First Contact" are good movies. The
other seven are fair at best ("Star Trek III: The Search For Spock"
and "Star Trek VI: The Undiscovered Country") and awful at worst
("Star Trek V: The Final Frontier", "Star Trek: Nemesis".)
Brian
"Yes" is not a proper answer to that question.

If that's the case, then Trek movies have officially jumped the biggest,
damned Time Travel Great White Shark in history. Trek has done time
travel TO DEATH. In fact, the whole Trek universe has been spun around
so many times with time travel reset buttons that it's incurably DIZZY.
Death means nothing, because you can always undo it. (Hell, this makes
Heroes' Hiro not saving his dad, and and The Time Machine (2002)'s
Alexander not saving Emma, *refreshing* .) I'm not paying for a ticket
to see the new Trek movie. I ~may~ Netflix it, but that's about it.
God, why don't they just let the Trek franchise mercifully end?! I'll
get the TOS DVDs, and pretend it ended in 1969.

Trust me, save yourself. Out of 88 minutes, about 5 are good~tolerable,
...much like ST-V. OTOH, you might get a kick out of MST3K-ing it,
*especially* the mine destroying sequence, and the part where they hide
in the tail of a comet.
She was better in "Sleepwalkers" (1992), and that movie had Mädchen
Amick as well. :D.
ROFL !!!
I cut & pasted that to Notepad to strip the HTML, and get the umlauts

That's because your character set is "US ASCII" and that has no
umlauts. You will need to see if your newsreader has the ability to
switch char sets, and how to do it.

Yes
Now you understand my contention that if they had The Shat in it,
there'd be SOME purpose. At least they'd be undoing Generations, and
having The Nimo and The Shat pass the baton to the new cast.
Or for God's sake, DON'T have The Nimo in it, and quit saying it's
faithful to the original when they've got Kirk serving with Pike, a man
we know he only met once, and advertise it as FORGET EVERYTHING YOU EVER
KNEW ABOUT JAMES TIBERIUS KIRK! That would work too.
A jumping around in time Abrams/Lost style TOS 'history of Kirk' could
have been a hoot (in fact, LOST gives me hope that RINGWORLD could
actually be filmed). But a time travel try to save Kirk and then don't
because you didn't do your homework and didn't know he was killed in
Generations and not take the opportunity to FIX Generations when you
have it film?
Hell, you don't even have to HAVE the 'undo Generations' sequence.
You've changed the timeline totally. All you need is old Shat and Old
Nimo together again at the end.
And now you undertand my sig.

Sure. Why not? It's just a sig, in a TV group.
I had OE6:
1. Tools-Options-Font Settings set to Western European,
2. Tools-Options-Read-Fonts-Encoding set to US ASCII,
3. Tools-Options-Read-International Settings set to Western European

Even then it's yet another time travel reset button story. Trek has
done, far, FAR too many of those. It's to the point where actions have
no consequences and you're never sure if anybody is really in peril, or
dead (except for redshirts, of course). That destroys 99% of the drama.

To some people, the mine destroying sequence, with the Mini Mouse
weapons officer (Sarah Cantrell played by Myriam Sirois), throwing a
conniption fit in a holo-weapons sphere, punching and kicking at space
to fire, was comical. I just found it *PAINFUL* . Oops, I forgot the
dojo sequence where Mini Mouse is held back (cowardly lion style, "Lemme
at him. Lemme at him.") from attacking Minbari Captain Tannier (who
became a real bonehead since the last time we saw him in "Learning
Curve."). Like ST-V, this would be much better cut down to a 5 minute
short.
Let's just say, if this bunch are Rangers (a.k.a. the Anla' Shok)
http://www.infinicorp.com/VEX/organizations/anla-shok.htm
, then Marcus Cole
http://amazon.imdb.com/character/ch0012583/ (a REAL Ranger)...
... would be doing a few thousand RPM in his cryo-tube.
Dulann (Alex Zahara), Na'Feel (unfortunate name, too close to a good
character in Crusade. Played by Jennie Rebecca Hogan.) and Firell
(Enid-Raye Adams) were the only worthwhile characters in the movie. The
captain (David Martel played by Dylan Neal) had one really good scene
because Dulann made it a really good scene. Weapons Officer Sarah
Cantrell played by Myriam Sirois, was just *awful* , as was a lot of the
writing, the plot, the new enemy, JMS' understanding of physics, the
Rangers' new policy of not retreating for ANY reason, etc.
You like "Nemesis" as much as I like "Babylon 5: The Legend of the
Rangers: To Live and Die in Starlight" (2002).

And the Romulans, again, kills another 50% of it. So they're starting
out way in the hole. :)
I've mentioned this before; a friend of mine says Generations works
better (yeah, I know, it doesn't work at all) because they swapped out
Spock and McCoy for Scotty and what's his name (without changing their
dialog at all) because Spock and McCoy wouldn't have just thrown up
their hands and said 'oopsie' when Kirk 'died' -- they'd have done
something to SAVE him.
Of course, this Spock is apparently gonna save Kirk from 'some' death
but not 'all' death. Even though he should damn well know about Picard
getting Kirk killed.
> That worked, so I'm sticking with it.
No, it didn't. You posted with US ASCII. Probably your reader is now

-49%, wow! Hey, that female Romulan captain/commander/whatever in
Nemesis was sort of cute, well, for a Romulan. ;-)

Having never seen of it, and only seen maybe 15% of all of B5,
scattered, I didn't really feel I had a comeback worthy of you. I was
content to listen and learn.

Following are the full set of headers (long) from your message. You
actually aren't setting the character set at all, which means that each
newsreader goes to its default. For many people that is Western
European. For me it's US ASCII.
If you set it, there would be a header like:

Can I just watch the episodes that JMS wasn't involved in?

For me, it was that Alan Alda had hugely more screen presence than
Jimmy Smits, who I swear phoned in his performances as Santos. Alda
and Richardson also had on-screen chemistry, and the network really
should have given the show one more year with an all-new cast centered
on Alda (afterall, the show is called "The West Wing" not "The Bartlet
Administration"), but nope.

:-P
Yes. The cast of TNG had an expiration date: too 90's.
They expired slightly before Encounter at Farpoint.
Well that would seem to solve the problem of who to leave behind.

It is simply breathtaking to watch the glee and abandon with which
the liberal media and the Angry Left have been attempting to turn
our military victory in Iraq into a second Vietnam quagmire. Too bad
for them, it's failing.
Steve, you scored a "0" on Mike Ubi's "Troll O Meter"--this has to mean
that Ubi would score a 10 and max it out because he's such a filthy troll.
Really. West Wing had its problems, but only a moron with an agenda
would dismiss the whole series as "festering garbage."
Call me a moron, then, because I think Ubi doesn't go far enough...
Can't we just all agree that Steve Newport is festering garbage?

Ad hominem noted. Get back to us when you have a real argument to make.
P.S.
Your attempts at "Dowderizing" quoted material isn't only fooling
anyone; in fact, it makes you look more like some desperately losing
a debate.

"Right-wing moron" is redundant. Just trying to help.
Yeah, okay. Hagel and Specter aren't bad. Exceptions to the rule.

How did I get dragged into this? Although being called a moron by a
brain dead lying sack of pig shit like Newport is pretty much a
compliment.

SN: takebackamerica certainly thinks more highly of anim8r than I do of
both of you.
For the record, I did not make the comment above. What I actually said
was "Only a moron with an agenda would dismiss the whole series (THE
WEST WING) as 'festering garbage.'" Somebody else then called Ubi and
Anim morons.
BTW, that was almost two months ago.

And aren't you a libertarian anyway?

What's the point?!
-- Rob
What's funny here is Steve Newport, hereinafter referred to as "brain
dead lying sack of pig shit" is the one who said it, and then misquoted
and misattributed himself, twisting it (as near as I can tell) into
"Audie Murphy's Ghost thinks more of ANIM8Rfsk than Steve Newport,
hereinafter referred to as "brain dead lying sack of pig shit" thinks of
Ubi and Mack Breck" -- boy howdy, did he prove himself a "brain dead
lying sack of pig shit" right there or what?
And is having Audie Murphy's Ghost think more of me than a "brain dead
lying sack of pig shit" thinks of Ubi and Mac supposed to in some way
shape or form be an insult???? Sounds more like another compliment to
me.
And who dismissed the whole series TWW as festering garbage? Certainly
not me; I'm on record as saying the final season sucked at Marti Noxon
levels, but up 'til then much, if not most, of it was gold.
