On the day we killed OBL and May Day, AKA "the day without french
fries", I watched:

THE OUTER LIMITS:
"Feasability Study". Aliens teleport a city block to their planet in
order to test humans as slaves.

THE O'REILLY FACTOR:
• President Obama, Afghanistan and Bin Laden
• Dan Savage's asshattery
• Will "Happy Hour" become a thing of the past in New York City? John
Stossel on that!

FACT OR FAKED?:
After going thru the motions of choosing two cases to investigate (I
have no idea why the one of the crow vanishing in mid-flight that was
allegedly taken on the site where they were filming a movie about a
demon that can take the form of a crow was even considered!), the team
investigayes two rather lame video clips. The first case involves a
woman who claims she was abducted by aliens who seemingly literally
disappears from underneath the sheets of her bed and the second case was
a glowing snake-shaped UFO that was obviously flares and their
smoke trail on an airborn device that turns out to be a stunt plane
practicing in the area.

THE REAL HOUSEWIVES OF ORANGE COUNTY:
"Bombs Away". Gretchen FINALLY performs for the Pussycat Dolls (they
still exist?); our long reality TV nightmare is over! Need I say she
sucked? Meanshile, Alexis visits a coach to help with her "Fox Force
Five" news segments. Lastly, Truffle Hunter starts spinning on her
eyebrows and shooting wooden nickels after her daughter tells her that
she she eloped. I don't blame Brianna, really; her mother is a
singularity of neediness amd narcism.

What did you watch?

COUGAR TOWN: Once again this show out-funnies TWO BROKE GIRLS as COUGAR
TOWN's dumb white girl with a baby is funny without being over the top.
Meanwhile, Lori's cupcake business is cruising right along and we find out
her 'secret ingredient' is better than just using a combination of boxed
cake mix. I like that they worked the title card into the episode. Funny
episode.

GLEE: the show takes an odd plot twist for their latest 'public service
message' by using the Beiste as target practice. Meanwhile, Kurt proves
that he is 'Not The Boy' and Rachel turns to cutting herself (from the NYDA
option) as a method of self sabotage. Lots of Newport-y songs, but the best
tune (for me) of the night was Rachel Berry singing 'Cry' as it conveyed the
best character/emotion (but Kurt's Not The Boy Next Door was a close second)
and the iTunes folks liked 'Shake it Out' by Santana, Mercedes, and Tina
best. It was a shame that the show opened with the worst two songs of the
night. Good episode.

NEW GIRL: is everyone up for a rebound? Just Jess proposes marriage to her
date's girlfriend while Schmidt's wee willy winky continues to heal. Ho
hum.

THE L.A. COMPLEX: This episode focused on the wannabee rap star and I spent
the entire episode wondering when these guys were going to drop the pretense
and just get onto the 'down low'. Meanwhile, the comic was less annoying as
he did something other than comedy and the stripper did some romancing of
the male version of the Jewel Staite character. Meanwhile, the 'new girl'
uses her stripper outfit to land her first role. Seriously, are we supposed
to care if 'new girl' and 'guy with his own TV series' hook up? The show
also introduced a new hot girl in the form of the comic's female stand-in
counterpart. I'd like to see more of her. Bonus points go to this show for
taking the strip club slightly in the direction of stripping/prostitution
instead of just the typical TV bikini dance place.

BATTLEGROUND: 2 days before the election (so it is Halloween) and the
candidate's dishonesty seems to be a slight plus with voters (but not the
press)...as at least she isn't a homosexual. Meanwhile, the underlings have
to guard the bus so that it can be used as a mobile billboard. The lead
character thinks family is too important to take on a better job (how would
he switch to a new job 2 days before elections?), but fails to see his kids
on Halloween? What a putz.

Eureka (recorded) - "The Real Thing". I really don't care for the
current season of "Eureka", as they seem to have forgotten what made the
show good in the first place - its humor. It'd be like "Psych" trying to
remake itself as a L&O clone or something. Anyway, I didn't much care
about the character who died (though her death scene was well handled).
But I *DO* really appreciate that the "Eureka" writers realized what I
have always known - that Ming Na is evol, evol, EVOL!!!

Hart of Dixie (recorded) - While the town tries to put on "Pirates of
Penzance", George is acting all weirdly happy that he's finally dumped
Lemon (and who can blame him for acting that way?!?!!). Indeed, he runs
off to New Orleans, where Zoe follows him. Meanwhile, Lemon's acting all
worried, and still delusional, as 14(?)-year-old Magnolia tries to talk
some sense in to her(!?! ain't that *backwards?!?!!). And Wade has a bad
bender of a night that ultimately involves Wade's ex-wife (Mircea
Monroe) - I really like how this particular story ended up, and I really
hope they continue it (incl. Monroe's character).

90210 - I had this on in the background while doing other stuff. It
looks like they're now going through 'the cycle' - every possible
romantic cast permutation in the cast. Oh, and Naomi still bugs the hell
out of me, so I of course liked the revelation about the bride-to-be's
groom at the end. Die, Naomi! Die!!

The L.A. Complex - Actually, Kate Todd had more of a part here than I
thought she would. And it's funny that only a Canadian show would
actually basically do a story about "being on the 'down-low'". Still,
the Jewel Staite part of this show is incredibly depressing - I just
wish they'd go somewhere with it...

Recorded for later: Just "Last Man Standing".

I thought the episode was OK but the music was a bit underwhelming. I
was especially unimpressed with Kurt's "Music of the Night."

I thought Nick's ex-girlfriend storyline was pretty good. I liked the

I didn't start to wonder that until the rapper attacked the guy who took
their picture.

I noticed a lot more bleeps this time around compared to the first
episode.

By the way, an uncensored version of the first episode (along with
several other premiers) is available for free download on iTunes.

I watched:

Private Practice -The treat a little girl going through gender identity
issues (and a mom who can't accept it) and a pregnant woman about to be
deported who wants to have her baby prematurely. A little too much
melodrama for my tastes.

The Voice - I think it was a results show but I was paying so little
attention I didn't notice who went and who stayed.

Lost Girl (recorded) - Bo battles a Fae that can invade dreams or cause
nightmares or something. I didn't really follow the explanation at the
end. I did like the B-story where her sidekick lets a Fae who's ability
is he likes to houseclean and work as a personally shopper move in.

(Saved for later: 90210)

Hhe sung an octive too high, but the choreography is what really killed it.
I don't fault the show for the song being bad, though, as it was intended to
be bad.

That was still pretty early on in the 'date'. The funny thing is, I was
wondering if the producer sent the kid off to meet with this rap artist as a
way of getting rid of him (put him in a position to be violently sexualy
violated) or if the producer was setting the two guys up on a date. It
might make for a more devious plotline if the producer intended it to work
out very badly...and it would be even more devious if it turned out that the
kid was just faking gayness in order to keep the job. This show probably
isn't intended to be that 'edgy', though, as I noticed that this episode was
much less edgy than the pilot already.

Just in time for Anim8rFSK to be able to watch the episode a 4th time and
check/verify the exact 'abortion pill' wording.

I thought that at first. But now I'm not so sure it was intentional;
especially if that version finds its' way onto a soundtrack CD.

The rain in Spain song was *awful* and that seemed to be played straight.

Now that I think about it, even before that when he pouted and walked
ahead of him then the rapper chased after him saying don't get mad.

I'm wondering if that was supposed to be a plot point on Smash with the
assistant.

House - finally something that actually relates to the series ending
and not a red herring, except for awhile when it seemed like House's
path back to jail was being arranged by having Wilson die in House's
apartment. Leonard/Wilson got to have fun. It also seemed like they
were setting Chase up to be the new Diagnostic team leader "we need to
solve this without House" so maybe there will be some closure and not
an ending of jerk arounds.

NCIS: Anim8rFSK could have watched since no JLC but she is listed for
next 3 episodes. I agree with those who think that Gibbs is playing
her and not the other way around so maybe should watch just to see Dr
Ryan get her just rewards. Show is going two more years so hopefully
she isnt Gibbs' final.

The bad choreography where he flapped around like a bat was definitely
intentional. The octave too high singing...well, that is harder to say
since Kurt has such a high voice in the first place. He went to that same
pitch at the end of his actual NYADA audition song.

> The rain in Spain song was *awful* and that seemed to be played straight.

I thought it was played as 'comedy', rather than 'parody', so yes, I'd
include that as it being played straight.

Agreed...and I think that is about the point where I was sure they would
hook up, though the second the rapper said 'you drive' at the start of the
date I had a hunch..

Agreed. They (SMASH) still haven't quite decided if they want to make the
assistant bisexual (which makes all his exploits 'ok') or heterosexual
(which simply isn't believable) which would make his interactions with the
music writer extremely devious.

That would've been good.

FASHION STAR (NBC) - This is no "Project Runway," but there's nothing
else on at this time that I want to watch. They started with some
really bad menswear by mentor John Varvatos. I can't see any sane man
wearing most of the pieces.

It's been obvious for quite some time that Kara deserves to win this
thing. This week she designed a great-looking tuxedo shirt that could
work as a dress or tunic over leggings.

Ross, whose design aesthetic is stuck somewhere in the "Dallas" /
"Dynasty" era, was sent packing, which was long overdue. But I find
Nikki even more irritating and I thought she deserved elimination this
week.

Unless they are designing t-shirts, they are outside my wardrobe range.

That depends on whether you're channeling RuPaul or Robin Hood.

While both are men, it seems but a technicality.

Mostly, this sounds like some sort of trick where women get men to buy
'men's clothing' that the women intend to steal and wear for themselves.
Basically, a subversive plot to get around the size limitations of the
woman's half of the closet.

ALL the girls are incredibly depressing, and how can they cover Kate
Todd in shapeless scrubs and make her being a big old slut be
unappealing?

FF through all the rap stuff.

So .. Abby, dressed like a whore (hardly a stretch) shows up at the door
of the guy she knows likes her, asks if she can spend a week in his
apartment "I'll totally make it worth your while" and after snuggling on
his bed watching chick flicks, is shocked, shocked I tell you, when he
tries to give her a congratulatory smooch???? Somebody needs to slap

Oh, yeah, when the rapper was chasing him down the street "oh so now

Which was stupid. The kid has to drive because the rapper has DUIs, but

Would you let a stranger drive your car, even on a first date? What the
rapper needed was one 'junk' vehicle that he would be willing to let a
stranger drive...and that wouldn't scream out for attention when tooling
down the street.

TV still sucking, so my main entertainment was:

HUGO (movie, DVD)

Scorsese really did a good job imitating a French whimsical film about a
child. Wonderful WONDERFUL mechanical-age toys and clocks all over the
place, and the clips from turn-of-the-century pioneer moviemaker Georges
Melies, who invented as many cinematic techniques as Edison invented
appliances.

"Hugo" is really about Melies and his movies. The main plot, though,
about an orphan boy who is secretly keeping all the clocks running in a
fabulous Paris train station, wouldn't be liked (or even tolerable) to a
lot of people. Imagine "The City of Lost Children" done by Disney and
you'd be in the ballpark.

If you can handle a naive, optimistic plot about a boy, this is a *MUST
SEE* because the execution is fantastic!

Acting: A+
Directing and Editing: A+
Art Direction etc.: A++
Special Effects: A+

Overall Grade: A for me, but it might go as low as a "D" for people who
can't tolerate the schmaltz.

CASTLE (DVR)

Not a bad episode at all. The procedural aspect was better than most of
them and I actually wondered who had committed the murder. The
window-dressing about zombies was fun. The interplay with Alexis, the
daughter, was fun. And FINALLY Castle and Beckett have a date to have
sex.

Grade: B

No, Kara's design was a tuxedo shirt specifically made for women. The
*idea* of a tuxedo shirt comes from menswear, but the item was
specifically made for a woman, so no stealing necessary.

Did I throw you off by mentioning John Varvatos' collection for men
first? Believe me, there were some items *there* that women would
want to steal. And that would save the guy the embarrassment of

Ah, ok, I misunderstood your earlier references to meanswear as meaning that
the designers had a challenge this week to design something for men to wear.

Yeah, what *was* she going to do to make it worth his while?

She can't pay him.

She apparently wasn't going to fuck him.

What's left? Cooking him dinner? Cleaning his bathroom?

And he has a very strange memory. He reminded her that her "car caught
fire on the 405". Ummm... no, it didn't. It caught fire on Wilshire,
which isn't a 12-lane freeway and it's about 20 miles from the 405.

Her only use to him is as his muse. If he was an artist, he could paint
pictures of her, but since he is a comedian he is going to have to just tell
jokes about how his life was continually tortured by her because he couldn't
stop thinking with his little head.

Agreed. All the camera panning over to cell phone scenes were beyond
pointless. Of course, I say that as a person that just doesn't grasp the
*need* of a cell phones in the first place. One thing I do realize, though,
is that people who have cell phones never actually put them down, so all the
scenes in THE L.A. COMPLEX were very unrealistic from that perspective.

Ubiquitous sent the following on 5/2/2012 3:38 AM:
> What did you watch?

My "a few days behind" seems to be getting worse before it gets better,
but I may get back on track eventually. In any case, I watched:

THE SECRET CIRCLE (CW, 8 PM) / Traitor

Faye and Jake give a crystal a test ride, so to speak. Jane, Cassie's
grandmother, is officially dead ... and they have the wake the very next
day? Charles and Blackmore get in a fight in the coffee shop and
absolutely no one--including management--seems to care to stop it. The
gang works to get all of the crystals needed to rebuild the crystal
skull (yeah, I know), and Adam's "I'm buzzed on cheap vodka" look is
identical to the "I'm a constipated psychopath" look that he uses for
almost every other scene that calls for emotion from him. But at least
he and Melissa got the job done. We learn that Blackwell pretty much
tapped every woman in town. In short, a lot of things seemed to happen
in this one, but none of it seemed to advance any plot lines.

Grade: C- (killing off the adults is not a good idea here, as the show
desperately needs age balance)

FRINGE (FOX, 8 PM) / Worlds Apart

"I find it's best if you just ... go with it." This line from Lincoln
Lee, in response to a comment from someone about the craziness of what's
going on, would seem to be this show's "every question will just lead to
more questions" moment. I knew that it was coming, and here it was. And
then we got a bunch of emotional goodbyes as everyone in this
timeline/universe/whatever said parted company with those they've grown
close to from the other side. Torv did her usual very good job with the
two Olivias and Noble did his usual exceptional job with the two
Walters. Jackson once again looked like they woke him up from a park
bench, and I would have liked to have seen more of the two Astrids
interacting once again. But as with Beverly's motivation for her
intricate plotting lately on EUREKA, here, too, we have David Robert
Jones totally over-engineering a solution. In this case, he apparently
wants to be grand poobah of a unified reality, or some such insanely
stupid thing. As if it wouldn't be enough to use his brains to provide
himself with a comfy lifestyle in a world that already exists?

Grade: B- (the punting begins)

GRIMM (NBC, 8 PM) / Leave It to Beavers

This show is really taking off lately and impressing the heck out of me,
and mainly for two reasons: (1) Nick is getting interesting and is
starting to get his badass on, and (2) we're seeing tons of skiffy story
arc work and far less police-procedural-of-the-week. The humor is
constantly getting better, too, largely due to Monroe, and the dinner
date between Nick, Juliette and Monroe was done very well. I don't know
what changed in the past few weeks that made this show's quality bust
through the roof, but I sure hope that it continues.

Grade: A-

Now if I can get to get to ONCE UPON A TIME, GAME OF THRONES and EUREKA
tonight, I'll be ready to fall behind on *this* week's shows, starting
with tonight's THE SECRET CIRCLE and tomorrow night's 8 PM trifecta...

Okay, I did. Their player is pretty good.

What an absolute pile of shit. This series is awful. I'm done.

I'll watch it again if and only if the black kid talks the rapper into
committing an armed robbery, the rapper goes to prison and so the black
kid gets fired.

Not likely. His next album is going to be made "relevant" because
shinyfaced black kid (doesn't he look like the guy in Scrubs, btw?) is
going to convince him to make "songs" about being a big start or
something.

Jewel Staite is now becoming nice. I knew it was too good to be true.

That guy Connor who has the lead on the doctor show is a total Canadian
goody two shoes dork. The "comedian" is a bad castoff from Big Bang
Theory.

And I haven't even mentioned Abby. She needs to get pulled off a bus
riding home from an audition and gang-raped by a group of the rapper's
friends, her limp body tossed on the side of the road. *Then* she can go
back to Roach Motel and tease the comedian some more

So, are we gonna' get a professional masticator for our friends with the
meat eating problems?

Probably songs about his awesome crib, awesome ride, and glorious richness.
That works well (more or less) for the newly rich rap stars. It might be
more difficult to sell a new set of songs about living on the 'down low',
though.

She is? I thought she was supposed to be really evil because she kept the
Canadian gal away from her best Hollywood contact and sex partner.

Maybe if the comedian had asked her to do that...she did say she would do
anything...except apparently him.

She doesn't have the thighs to pull off those shorts either.

Actually, that part was realistic because cell phone users do turn off the
ringer...when they are at work. This is why you can walk through an office
building nowadays and see half the workers staring down at their laps and
working their thumbs.

Yeah, I saw no indication of 'nice' except by comparison to:

She's actually got a role on Suburgatory. She's not very good in it.

Is she pre-chewing the scenery?

Here's a candidate for the "she's too stupid to be a good actress"
thread.

I thought Kelly Cuoco AKA, "THe Retarded Bimbo on 'Charmed'" had a permanant
lock on that one.

I have no idea if Kaley is a moron in real life or just plays one on TV;
I've never seen an interview with her.
