Not in the tone you do it.
Barbra Streisand is talking about things that need fixing. You seem to
jump into this for the sake of "whuping" Jewish people.
The Jewish people didn't bring the Holocaust upon themselves. They were
treated as pariahs and demonized and then it was easy to loot them and
kill them.
You could say all kinds of intersting things. I believe women fought in
the Warsaw Ghetto uprising, fighting back against the forces that were
about to kill them off. I gather women were part of planning of the
escape from Sobibor, one of those concentration camps. WOmen have been
part of the Israeli army from very early on, if not from the beginning.
Golda Meir was the head of the country 45 years ago, way before other
countries had women leaders. When Kibbutz were a strong movement,
women played an important part, and the children were raised
comunally (right or wrong) in order for the women to not have a
secondary function to men. Isreal is generally a very forward looking
country, in part because the foundation is of cultural Jewish, rather than
religious. But the nazis killed you no matter if you practiced religion
or were just Jewish by birth.
This issue that Streisand is talking about is the role of women as seen by
the very ultra religious, that actually make up a relatively small
percentage of the population if I remember properly, but who have an
awuful lot of control. So people who want a more modern society have to
live with the ultraorthodox rules. I gather that does put a deep schism
in the country.
