Media Rights adding Canadian show
'4Real' heads to CW's Sunday night
By MICHAEL SCHNEIDER

Canadian series "4Real," a feel-good, celebrity-driven half-hour exec
produced by Joaquin Phoenix, has been added to Media Rights Capital's
Sunday night sked on the CW.

Two episodes of the show will air back-to-back in the 6 p.m. hour
beginning Sept. 21, the same night MRC's CW lineup launches.

MRC also informed CW affiliates that repeats of new reality series "In
Harm's Way" will air at 5 p.m. As previously announced, firstrun
episodes of "In Harm's Way" will air at 7 p.m. until late October,
when the show slides down to 6:30 p.m.

Skein "4Real" follows celebs as they travel around the globe to meet
with real-life leaders creating change in their communities. Besides
Phoenix, stars participating in the show include Cameron Diaz, who
traveled to Peru; Casey Affleck, who went to the Pawnee Nation
reservation in Oklahoma; Eva Mendes, who shot her episode in
Vancouver; and Flea, of the Red Hot Chili Peppers, who flew to Haiti.

Direct Current Media produced the show, originally for CTV and MTV
Canada; Sol Guy hosts and co-created the series (with Josh Thome).

Eight episodes of "4Real" were produced by CTV -- which means MRC will
need to fill the 6 p.m. slot again come late October.

MRC is programming a total of five hours on Sunday for CW starting
this fall. Besides the three hours in primetime, MRC inherited the
net's pre-primetime 5-7 p.m. block -- in which the CW used to air
repurposed episodes of its dramas -- as part of the deal. Prior to the
CW, the WB, which first negotiated the 5-7 p.m. block as an
alternative to programming on Saturdays -- branded the timeslot as
"Easy View."

You have to give MRC credit for at least trying something VERY different in
CW's early Sunday primetime slot where TV viewers were rare last year. This
show looks better suited for PBS, but at least it is 'counter-programming'
for the other network fare on early Sunday evening.

In other news, former Survivor contestant Hunter Ellis has been tapped as
the host for MRC's (CW Network) Sunday Night show, In Harm's Way. he will
now join Elisabeth Hasselbeck as former contestants with network TV show
hosting duties.
